washing ceiling???
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:52:53 am »
hi,

this is my first post on the site so be gentle! i have just been to quote a house this morning and have been left a bit baffled. we use eco-friendly products in all our houses unless stated/provided by the customer. so basically i had a call from a lady saying she would like the ground floor of her house cleaned top to bottom to get rid of any allergens left by her dog who she had grown allergic to . so i went round there and she said she got rid of the dog 2 weeks ago but hasnt vacuumed in case the allergens go haywire! she has asked us to come in and clean all windows, windows frames etc. my only problem is that she wants the walls and ceilings cleaned as well. until now we havent been cleaning walls in anyones house for fear of ruining the paintwork.

so any ideas on how to clean the walls in an eco-friendly way?? or how to go about cleaning the ceiling without straining my employees neck?

we only do domestic cleaning but until now i have never come across washing a ceiling.

hi there

right, so what are the walls, matt, silk, or eggshell, or even more lucky the washable stuff intended for kitchens and bahrooms.??

if they are matt, you are pretty well stuffed, as it will come off.

the ceilings, are they smooth or artex ??

your not going to completely clear this place, as houses are really constructed to achieve that, we have cleaned medical instrument wash rooms, where the whole place is cleaned top to bottom, and the air pressure in the room is set at greater to that of the surrounding rooms, with double airlock doors, so that there isnt any chance  anything nasty getting into the room.

as soon as you open the front door of a house there is an effective air change, and therefore nasties can come into the house as well as leaving the house.

you really need to establish exactly what the client wants to achieve, one method would be to swab the place before you start, then have it tested, and then re swab after the clean to prove the cleanliness, but it will cost you and therefore the client money.

good luck

regards

martin

thanks martin,

the walls are matt paint painted on bobbly (technical term) wallpaper. the ceiling is artex and some bits are really quite dirty. i see what your saying about the swabs but i dont think it would apply to this house. it is just an average 3 bedroom house and she says she justs want everything washed! im a bit worried to be honest and the though of washing a ceiling makes me feel very tired already!

I'd dust the ceilings and then use an ozone generator to kill the remaining bacteria - ozone could be considered to be a replication of a natural occurance.
