I would speak to your insurer and let them know the situation. They may say you have enough cover, they may also say you need to give them some more money to go up to five or ten million. Something specific like this I would definately get the right info from the people who may or may not pay out if there is a problem.

hi there

you need to check the per value, the value of what the site that you are working on isnt relevant.

the client will ask for a certain level of insurance and that is what you need to provide.

hi there

i dont what value the work that you are doing is, however i would ensure that when they sign off on the quote that you have provided, you add a line to the quote stipulating the level of insurance that you have in place.

so that, if in the event of any incidents, you have a signed acceptance of your quote and your insurance cover.

regards to contract works insurance, it all depends what you are doing and whether your customer has asked for it.

I am cleaning and sealing about 500 sq metre of patio slabs on a property worth £15 million ++
They accepted my quotation and asked me now to provide them with insurance and tax reference. I have £2 public liability. not sure if that is enough

Not sure what is tax reference? I’ve just emailed them and asked what exactly they need from me

The value of the total property is immaterial really, you are only working on 500 metres of patio.  Your insurance covers you for what you work on.  Not many companies would carry 15 million liability, the standard is 1 and 10 but a lot of places like to see the 2 and 10 so that is what I carry.  I clean schools, large industrial places, and also do builders cleans for some pretty expensive properties.    I would say they would be happy with your insurance.  Just give them a copy and if they have a problem they will tell you.  Would it actually be worth the increase in insurance premiums for one job?  In the CIS scheme you are given a unique tax reference for your company.  I am not sure this would be applicable unless you are subcontracting for a builder.  But if you are and need one they are free by applying to the CIS scheme but be aware unless you are doing 30,000 GBP in business with in the scheme, not total turnover then the contractor will hold out 20% and you can claim this off any PAYE or NI that you have to pay.  Other wise they could be asking for your company number or maybe even your VAT number.  The tax reference part is a bit vague and you probably need some clarification on this.

Cheers Gilbert

P.S. Administrator, I am no having the problem of the cursor jumping around on me Good Job
