You can get a free listing on yell.com anyway. I have one on there and have picked up a few because of it.

theres another guy on here called luther who is a good friend of mine. a couple years ago he spent around 6/7 hundred quid on a advert in the yello pages and he picked up two shop fronts and some offices that where around £60 every other month. He said it was definetly not worth it. You have to try your luck though, i have just put a ad in the thomson local. Are have to wait and see if it pays off  :-\

Try another box. Dont know anyone who has a good word for either of them, they seem to be living on borrowed time as they are being swallowed up by Google.

i had a sales rep from yell/yellow pages round last month......i signed up for quite a lot......straight after he left i felt as if i had been done over.......HOWEVER....i was wrong.....the phone never stops/email is running on overdrive.....i have a moniter number from them and i am getting around 5 calls per day.......and in the month that yell.com has been active i have had over 500 quids worth of extra work from them, and thats before the yellow pages come out.....so i would say go for it this year anyway....if you aint happy then dont renew....but so far i am very happy.

used to use yell.com for £80 per yr, but they keep upping the price each year i think its £120 now,
i did get a lot of work off it though, but im too  busy at the moment so dont need it, but still get calls off the free listing. gumtree and google maps is good too.

We have a free listing in the yellow pages and one on yell.com
but we have only picked up 2 jobs from it since it came out last November.

Yell.com gave me an 08 number so they could track the amount of calls directly from there.

45 last year.

Remember it will get you near the top on a Google search.

we spent £900 on a 'top of the page' listing for north london last year, not 1 job!!!
Still with yell but a much reduced ad. Probably get the same results.

how is there a huge variation in prices on yell.com, swansea is about £120 and london £900?

In my view the YP is an expensive waste of money.  I had an ad in the pages last year as well as a slot on yell.com.  In all I had around 10 or so genuine inquires some of which lead to new work, however I was nowhere near breaking even.

What I did get in spades were: calls from sales reps for other advertising media and web designers, people looking for a job and many attempted scams.

For the money I spent on Yellow pages I could have had my van sign written and paid a canvasser part time to work a fair few weekends/eves.  With hindsight I wish I had,  I dont think I could recommend YP any less really.
