Starting out questions
« on: July 06, 2005, 03:07:07 pm »
Hello my name is Pete and I am in Suffolk.

I am a decorator at the moment but am looking into becoming a window cleaner.

I have found a few answers to some questions I had on the forum but wondered if any of you could please help with a couple more i have.

I cant afford to go WFP at first and am wondering what sevices i can offer.

Can a ext pole and attachments do conservatory roofs ok, as well as windows that are hard to get to with a ladder?

I am not planning to go above normal house height until I go WFP

I already have a light 3 section ladder i use for decorating but wondered would I be better off with a pointer?, also what size 1 section pointer would be best.

Plus there are so many tool on offer, what are ones i will need.

Hope you can help

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete - loads of possibilities re your questions
I would get a decent double pointer 3-4m - they are safer than normal ladders if used properly
don't use the light stuff - your life may depend on it
get a single pointer maybe 6-8 feet
conservatory roofs I can't comment on
the hard to get to window eg over garage/conservatory does not clean easy with the pole - you can get the dirt off but it's hard not to leave streaks because you aren't using the same dexterity as hand held squeegee

Why do you want to change careers, if you don't mind me asking :)

Thanks for your reply Davindo Cleana

Thanks for your help and Its a long story about the change of career but part of it is people having a 100 quotes and picking the cheapest.

I am looking at window cleaning because i can see from the forum that if you work hard it has its rewards.

Plus if you do a good job it is repeat business, a bit more often than decorating and if i build up 3 or 4 long days it can free up some time for my other work

Thanks again

Hi Peter

I cannot comment on ladders because i do not use them (wfp) plus i will not allow my staff to use them.

concerning your conservatory – Contact Ionic – they do a residential pole which is 12ft and comes with a small DI bottle and tap connector – providing your clients have an outside tap, you can run it straight of that – I don’t know if I can mention prices, so if you want me to tell you, just email me, it is cheap though. This will allow you to operate safely and give a good finishing result.

I hope this helps and good luck with your new venture.

Many Thanks

Andy
