pump problem
« on: February 21, 2010, 11:01:33 am »
been swaping wfp from one van to other,  had it all set up   but pressure at hose was crap,  pump making noise

now no water  but pump is still making a noise like it is continiously pumping (it use to stop and start  every second when working fine)  would this be a knackered pump, can get water up to pump just not passed it

any ideas

Maybe an air lock or a silly question but is tank value turned on to let water up to pump?

Hoses should be at top, there should be arrows on top of pump showing in and out. Try connecting intlet pipe but run without oulet connected. Might spit out some water but will clear any air.

I would disconnect the hose from the hose reel or what ever you have after the pump and run it till water comes out.
This way you can be sure there is no airlocks and if the pump is doing its job properly.

I use to have airlocks all the time then i fitted a tap to the tank outlet to stop water vacuum when travaling, now no probs.

hope it helps.

i have done all that even had pump running connect up to just a bucket of water doesnt seem to want to suck in,   i have taken the pump apart  under the black plastic at the top there is a circle in the middle with what looks like a hole where a piece of plastic should be to push something up,  is this right,  cant up load pics as says folder is full

Could be the pressure switch, bypass the wiring on the switch to test this.

Same was happening to mine last month. Needed to work so went to local marine shop and bought a new pump. Still have old one and gonna see if it can be fixed.

bit of an update,  took pump to gardiners,  they said they dont know any thing about shurflo pumps as they only sell flojet, so took it up to wintecs they really didnt know what was up with it but let me try a new pressure switch, didnt do any thing, so has to be sent away to get looked at,  in the end bought a recon 100 psi pump for £50, cant grumble,  will end up with 2 pumps in a few weeks
