Advice with UPvc cleaning please!
« on: June 08, 2005, 10:18:01 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just a quick one to find out what any of you, who do upvc/fascia cleaning, use for cleaning them. I'm guessing that the most common answer will be WFP, but I'm some way off getting my system unfortunately.
Seem to be getting a few requests for this at the moment, think I may have undercharged on the first one (£65 for a bungalow both gutters and fascias??) judging by another thread I read.
Also, any tips, eg. for stubborn marks or the like, would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Simon

i just started in this game and i use a upvc cleaner by ettore. i have spoke to various w/c and an ave price i got was £10 a side with a multiplier for how much muck could be in there so i am doing one this month straight forward for £25 and one a little more complicated @ £ 67

Is that price just for the fasicas?

I presume without wfp, its just a case of a bucket of water, a cloth, some cleaner fluid, and a lot of elbow grease! - depending on the amount of dirt, obviously.

Even with WFP its hard work
I've found the best way is to use a long handled car wash brush to do the dirty work a squirty bottle of good old fashion fairy and water to help move the dirt and hose with trigger on end to rinse off.
a little trick is to wet the area first this helps to loosen the dirt.

WFP are good for getting at area's that cannot be reach by ladder but working with the brush in all sorts of diffrent positions that it was not designed for really makes the arms ache, I find that doing it as above is a LOT QUICKER and does a better job.

Hi simbag
We do loads of upvc cleaning and it's very rare that we use wfp.

We use jangrol mirror & glass cleaner and a green scouring pad then wipe off with a scrim comes up like new. email me at [enquiries@washgo.co.uk] and i'll send you a couple of pics showing a consevatory clean before & after

Hi - I use a pvc cream cleaner which is like Cif but not too abrasive - apply with a cloth and polish off with a different cloth. The scourer works as mentioned but it has exact same effect as on the tupperware in the kitchen - it scratches and makes it uncleanable next time round - so I save the more abrasive method for people who are moving house and don't care.
I always tell the customer that you never get it back to new - that is the nature of pvc, and why we will all end up back with painted timber or powder coated aluminium in the future.
Good Luck

Simple.  ;)

Just ask the customer to provide a bucket of hot water with some Flash or Jif (Cif or whatever it's called), and two cloths.
A soft brush is a help too.

Use one cloth as a wet washing cloth and one to dry and wipe clean.
A brush will get in all the gaps, if you can get one.
I find it helps to let the next bit you're doing soak for a few mins, so slop a load of water over it, or even soak with your sprayer.
Then it's softened up and wipes off a treat. :D

I enjoy it. You can always get a good price and the results are very satisfying.
Makes a nice break from windows too!

I've thought about officially offering it to customers...

Cheers, Roger.

I have cleaned loads as mentioned but nothing will beat using a jet wash with extendable lance.

It will clean everything and a whole house - detached can be done in half an hour at the most.

Thanks for the tips everyone,

Midas, if it only takes half an hour, what would you charge for that?

What type of pressure washer do you use, I've been thinking about getting one, to use for patios as an add on. Also, does the lance reach up two storeys?

Thanks

Around the £50 mark including the sides.

The lance is 7 metres fully extended and I work mine off a 5.5 hp petrol jet wash.

I understand you can get a half decent jet wash for £99 from Makro but I dont know what they are like.

The lance you can buy from Northern Tools.

Hope this helps

Rob - does your method get the really grubby old pvc clean or just the decent stuff that's got a bit dirty - if it does both, it sounds like the bees knees of a method

I have one from makro's £117 with the vat.
Great little pressure washer.
1800psi good for conservatories and gutter jobs but not really got enough power for patios or driveways.
You could do patio and driveways with it but i tried it with mine and it took ages and had lines everywhere.
Maybe better with the turbo lance fitted.
I use a 7.2 mtr extendible lance for gutters and cladding.

Hi,

Thanks again. I've been trying to find the makro one, but not having much luck, can you point me in the right direction please?
Also can you tell me what the flow rate for that one is as well?

I've been searching around trying to work out which is the best one to buy, but there are so many variables, can anyone throw some suggestions in please, be it good or bad.

Many thanks

Simon
