Home insurance for water purification
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:38:55 am »
I am in the process of getting quotes for home insurance and they all ask "will the property be used for business?". Has anyone who is producing pure water in their garage considered this question and upgraded their insurance accordingly?

This has crossed my mind before as I claim against tax the cost of detergents, heat, light and my computer so technically that is business use. I use my phone and keep my accounts at home also.

Some may consider this issue to be trivial, but in the event of a claim, if it was discovered you were using your property for a purpose which it was not insured for, your claim would be null and void.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I don't claim any part of my property or running cost of same against tax as I was once told that if I did if and when I came to sell my house there could be a possible taxable profit against the % that I claimed for bussines use. I only claim for a % of the phone as its not a fixture and claim a laundry allowance for washing.
