i use my unger window scraper blade or a stanley knife to get a good edge on it

New scraper blade, flat surface, single press down on the rubber for a clean cut.
Cut them to about 4mm longer than your channel length so that you have a 2mm overlap at either end.
Always done it this way without any problems at all

Scissors cut your rubbers at a slight angle.
Guilletine method with razor works best. Wet blade and rubber with a bit of soapy water first, makes it easier.
