Can i use this for aggitation.....
« on: November 23, 2009, 01:30:58 pm »
......on domestic propertys?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250534360940&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I am in the process of starting up and i think i have most of the gear needed.
What do you think of this KARCHER FP222 floor Polisher for aggitation.
I had a practice on my stairs and landing yesterday using a aggitating brush,
and it almost killed me off. :-[
To be honest i want a sebo duo,but don't have much budget left for a new one,
and second-hand ones on ebay seem to be rare.
If the KARCHER FP222 is no good would a rotary type polisher/scrubber/buffer work on domestic house's as there are loads on ebay or would they be to heavy and cumbersum.Cheers.

you wouldhave to disable the vac if you wanted to use it to aggitate prespray as it is not a wet vac. It only has a small motor so how effective it would be on carpet is questionable it may not even turn the brushes.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any experience of the machine though.

It doesn't say what RPM the machine runs at, but if it's designed as a buffer/polisher I reckon it's going to be 400RPM or more, definitely NOT suitable for carpets!!  It'll chew them up.

No budget for a Duo???  They're not that much, think of all the labour it'll save you, after a few jobs you'll be glad you got one.

Something like a 15" rotary is a great tool to have, mine travels everywhere with me.  It's a great machine used with the brush block for polyprops or any trashed carpet with hair/fluff in it, and bonnets for less minging work :)

This is definately not designed for carpets, you will do lots of damage to the pile as this machine runs at 700 rpm.

you'll burn the motor out in 30mins using it on carpets or the brushed won't even turn , it is not designed to handle the ressitance created by carpets, the motor is too small.

You would be better buying this you wont regret it.

I paid £180 for a second hand host and after a couple of years spent £300 refurbishing it , worth every penny!

I once tried something similar. It was a two brush machine made by hoover. I shortened the handle and just used it on stairs. It work well but the motor was under more strain than it was intended for. Also I didn't think it was promoting the right image to the customer.

Frankly I was embarrassed using it. On black top it was king, although because of it's small size it was slow but very effective.

I would argue that the rpm issues mentioned above are irrelevant. Rpm is not the issue. It's velocity. Work out the velocity the bristles on a 19 inch brush move over the carpet by using the Rpm 150 and the circumference of the brush. The do the same for the Karcher machine. I wouldn't think there is too much difference in the two.

Look out for a 2nd hand host Reliant or T6.

You could also look out for an envirodri, which people say are good machines.

Host is excellent for agitation.
As is the Envirodri
As is the machine Restormate sell.
As will be the Prochem equivalent.

I have an Envirodri.
Tried the Host and Restormate one.
No experiance of the Prochem.

! ! ! ! 8) ANORAK ALERT 8) ! ! ! !

15" rotary at 180rpm has a circumference of 1.2m which means a velocity of 3.6 metres/sec at the outer edge.

Assuming brushes on the karcher machine are 6", they have a circumference of 0.47m and a velocity of 5.5 metres/sec at the outer edge

The karcher's brushes are roughly 50% faster moving than a rotary.

but that proves nothing!  The pressure will affect what's happening.

Also, there are loads more factors but I'm starting to bore myself now so I'll shut up :)

You really need quantum theory to nail this one.  ::) Do you want to kick it off. If so I'm going to grab my coat ( nice blue anorak) and get out of here. :)
