Can stainguard go off
« on: November 12, 2009, 08:55:27 pm »
Stainguard is not something that I push all the time,if a customer asks for it then I will apply it. In the past Ive used Extractas water based you mix it 4-1,customer called the other day for it so I got out a half used 5ltr container of stainguard the night before the job to mix for the next day, when I opened the container the smell was horrible I would describe as a foisty smell. The product was about 6 months old ,got in touch with Extracta and they say it shouldnt go off theres no shelf life.As anyone experienced anything similar.
                                                regards Jeff ???

It'll probably have preservatives added to give it long life but if the container's been opened, and especially if you've tipped a bit back in, bacteria etc will get in.

Generally stuff will last for ages if you leave it sealed but once opened everything will start to deteriorate.

Follow your nose, chuck it ;)
