Ralph

I would definately visit the property, measure up and talk to the client about any concerns she has and stains that she can identify.

Sell yourself and you will get a good rate for the job, besides her sizes could be well out.

I would not quote this over the phone unless she absolutely insisted.

I would go and visit, it could be a minger, it could be full of furniture,it's just that I was caught out many times early on with telephone quotes!!
Then you can explain pre vac, prespotting, agitation etc, will help sell yourself!!!

Mr B
If in doubt.....Leave it out !!

Agree with everyone and to go and visit. What customers say and whats it actualy like can be completley different. And as others have said, you can sell yourself/service better than on the phone.

All the best

shopping around maybe true. the house is empty but i got the impression it wasn't hers and needs it done within next couple of days. i quoted her £400 anyway. think there might be a good chance of her price shopping but fine out tomorrow.

thanks ralph

I recently quoted for a local Gymnastics club 'carpet'.  On the phone i asked what size, the woman said '12 foot square'......  I said 'are you sure?' so she said 'hold on i'll check'.  Came back to me... 'oh, it's 12 METRES square'.  Went around and surveyed next day and it was 14 metres square, so just a tad different from an initial 144 sqft to 2,110 sqft  :)

If you price over the phone it is ALWAYS an ESTIMATE

meaning - when you get their and its not as you were told over the phone the price can alter - but make that clear over the phone.

If the job is more then 3 rooms I would go and QUOTE in person
