Tech heads - assistance required
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:50:27 am »
M-CLEAN UK are offering pressure washing services nationwide, to supermarket chains and high profile clients.

I am looking into putting together a vacuum recovery loop system, this will allow us to recirculate the same water and reduce down time, in stopping, moving the set up and filling.

The system is trailer mounted water tank (1000ltrs), outlet to pressure washer(s), to hose(s), to flat surface cleaners) (with vacuum port (s)), vacuum hose back to wet vacuum system, to filtration unit and then back to the water tank.

The set up is not complicated, works and apart from the vacuum recovery is already in daily use. I have no problem with putting together any part of it and have had in depth conversations with a couple of engineering firms who can give me exactly what I want but at a price!!!!. Even though I already have most of the set up!!

The questions I need to find the answers for are;

1 Could I utilise a truck mount carpet cleaner as the vacuum unit.

2 Do truck mounts have a vacuum and dump water option at the same time

Many thanks for your time

Rob ;D

you need to work backwards. with a water recycling system you need to find out what size solids the pump can handle from thier you can devise how fine the filtration system has to be.

a T/M PDB will easily create enough vacuum, you can also fit an auto pump-out to any T/M.

the recovery of the water is simple, what is hard is filtering that recovered water to an acceptable state that  can then be re-used

Mike

I have been offered a custom built tank unit, with full filtration system, auto dump on the filtration and vacuum recovery, set up to go but I like to know what I am dealing with.

Cost £10-000

I have discussed what I am after with another engineering firm and they felt the price is fair. Could I realistically save a lot of money by going down the self build route or would it be coming in at the same kind of price.

The reason I am trying to save money on this side is that I need further finances for the second part of this project, which may involve 20-000psi plus pressure washing capability @ 15 - 30lpm and the vacuum recovery would need to handle this as well.

what actually do you want to know?

a big positive displacement blower will recover water over 400yrds but will need a 15-20ish Hp engine

this will recover the water either into a waste tank which then will need filtering and pumping back into the freshwater tank, or you could pull the recovered water directly through the PDB expelling directly into the fresh tank but the filtration will need to be on the suction side. I use this system and use a inline filter but it blocks easily, if you are recovering soil & debris it would need emptying every 5mins so is no use for you.

the PDB will cost £1200, the engine £1200 reinforced stainless steel tank £500 plus all the filtration side  I could build a system for £6000 but if I were you I'd spend the 10k and have it done right and come with a guarantee

Youve told me exactly what I need to know in the last post.

The component parts for this are approximately 3k plus additional costs on the filtration.

The filtration will be inline but much larger than you are using and multi mesh filtered, in finer gradings. This would need to be reinforced - if on the vacuum end. This may even be vortex based and self cleaning

I cannot see anything over complicated on this but needed to know individual component cost.

You have been a great help

Why on earth would you want to filter the waste to use again ?.

Glynn, if Rob is working on a big job or away from home, 1000 lts will only last 1 hour.
The recycling will allow him to work all day, just dump and rerfill at end of day.
Wheelie bin cleaners use a similar concept.

I am sorry to confuse the odd one. The reason I posted up here was because the technology required is quite similar to  what you guys use.

The PDB mentioned by Mike will be the way I will move forward, this then will do away with having a reinforced tank built, when I have one in the trailer already. Mike is right that the necessary part is making sure the correct filtration is in place.

Yes, get your wife or a child to read it for you. He clearly states pressure washing.

Rob

If your talking of pressure washing exterior surfaces your going to loose a lot of water anyway as many of these surfaces are porous, so you are going to need an additional water supply depending of course on the size of the area and surface type to be cleaned, but i agree recycling is a good idea, in the mid 90's i ran a conveyor car wash that used recycled water, because as you have already sussed out....you dont need clean water to pressure wash!! but as has been mentioned the important part is the filtration, good luck.

just get a 15hp prowler as it filters the waste water already and instead of dischaging it direct it into a holding tank for reuse, the filter on them is something like 100 microns but you can get finer if require speak to John Kelly
