Am I missing anything...??
« on: September 22, 2009, 05:56:43 pm »
Having been using a back pack for a while now. Its time to go the whole way with a van mount. I have the 650L tank in the van, but now need the rest...lol.

This is what I've based everything on..............oh and a few q's on what you would advise to use??

anything I've missed or forgotten...

1" tap from Baffled tank with hozelock connection.....from which company ??  (couldn't find one on gardiners site) (and is this the best option?)
Hozelock connector (female) from tank attached to clear re-inforced hosing (b&q or gardiners) to pump
Strainer/filter in line between tank and pump
100 psi pump
Braided clear tubing from pump outlet to reel.
Brass hozelock swivel elbow (gardiners)
Reel (gardiners)
100m Microbore (gardiners)
Leisure Battery 110amp
Crocodile Clips and leads. (not sure what is required, if anything in line on the leads, fuse, switch ?? )
Varistream or similar  (not sure what way to go on this yet)
Various male/female hozelock connectors and jubilee clips.

All seem ok??, and anything obviously missed??

Thanks for any input. Would ideally like to get it all from the one source :) ...........probs apart from the leisure battery.

I like to stick pretty much to one company. Lately that's been gardiners, but i have used cleantech. The reason for this is that if you get in a fix they are more likely to help you.Price shopping for an item here and an item there is not a good strategy.(imo)

The in line strainer is a good idea, as well as a strainer just before the pump.

This is easy for me to say fieldsy, but don't worry about what you spend, just get what you need and don't skimp.

Hi
In my experience I would forget the crocodile clips and go for proper battery terminals. I started off with crocodile clamps and they caused me no end of trouble. Now I have the battery securely mounted in the van with a split charger relay and proper battery clamps - end of problems. I top up the battery with a small charger probably once a week without taking the battery out using a cable  from the garage. I do appreciate that some may have to take the battery indoors to charge it if they don't have a driveway and/or garage, but I would still have the inconvenience of having to unbolt the battery clamps every time than the unreliable convenience of a crocodile clips not making good contact.

Some companys sell a pump board, with a varistream filter and pump already wired and mounted, you just attach red and black wire from battery.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have sufficient space to leave the battery in the van and charge away from the garage, so battery clamps are an option.

As for the all in one set up, is that just a 70psi pump , and would this be enough to eventually run two reels/hoses??

thanks again  ;)

If you've got the dough spend it and don't worry. You need two pump boards for two people.

Honestly this is very good advice even if you think i'm taking the mick.

What about R/O, D.I ?
and flow tap for hose reel, pole holder,  external manifold and water proofing for van floor.

in your situation you order a reel and hose with a tap on the end, quite normal.

Where the half inch hose goes into the reel, there are often leaks, so ask alex for one with the 90 bend on the inlet.

(the reason for this is the reel spins and connection doesn't. if you see what i mean, someone might put a pic up)

thanks slumpbuster,

this is what I'm trying to work out on another thread...lol. The only swivel I can see on gardiners is a brass hoselock type. Are you saying there is a 90 swivel (non hoselock), which I can just jubilee clip the 1/2" onto.???, and hence no leaks (no hozelock)

thanks  ;)
