dirty windows
« on: May 08, 2005, 09:56:15 pm »
:) Hello, could anyone give me any thoughts , someones asked me to clean their windows theres been no window cleaner in that area for approx 1 year .  so this afternoon me, the kids and the wife went posting .  i noticed the windows were very dirty , one lady even ran out to me before i was even out of the garden  ;) to do hers.  The prices are between 6.50 - 7.50 pounds traditonal w-c .  I was thinking of charging 10.00  pounds per house for the first clean this will allow for extra time involved etc. also for the customers that want a one off clean and then dont want them doing for another year ........... time wasters  what do you think guys  many thanks brett  ???

I never used to charge more for a 1st clean but I most certainly would now. Thing is I only deal in pounds never 50p cause its just a pain getting the change. What I would do is price it to at least £8.00.

a pain in the RRR's.....ok, it's good for some quick cash at the time.....but really you want to get them to commit to a monthly clean if you can.....otherwise it's a new clean every time....stuff that...it wont be compact and you'll spend a lot of money earning time running about all over the place....they either want a regular cleaner or they don't.....been there done that !

:) hi thanks steveyboy and duke .  it looks like a good oppertunity for some compact work i will most certainly get them to commit to a monthly clean .  it should cost a bit more the first time as it looks like the windows need sweeping first  lol    regards brett  :)

MalcG's plan:-

Course I'll clean yer winders missus! I only take on regular customers and I call once a month - but because your windows are manky (er... rather mucky) I always charge double for the first clean.

(If they cancel you next visit you've not lost any money!)

We nearly always charge double for the first clean, but we generally do the frames as well so the whole window looks the business.

You'll be amazed the number of people who promise to have you on a regular clean then as soon as you've cleaned them the first time they ring up and cancel.  You then get a phone call 6 or 12 months later asking you to do them again.

"Sorry, fully booked!"

HI:my method is to tell them I wont be able to do a perfect clean 1st time cus a/ if its uvpc the black rubber gathers dirt and rubberizes and if I clean it heavy, experience shows it ends up on the whites and stains the frames, tell the customer have they ever cleaned a car after washing it drying the windows end up with black on the rag, well now you know where it comes from, youve got it luv the rubber around the window.
b/if its old wooden windows tell them you may see lines around the edge because the paint has emulissified [spelling]
and we have trouble with white marks around the window frames.
tell them they will be perfect 2nd clean
never failed for me and gets them use to having a window cleaner come every 4 weeks
IM AT THAT AGE MY BACK GOES OUT MORE THAN I DO

Charge £10 anyway, that will cover 1st clean, but make it £10 each month, if they are as desperate as you say they will pay

Personally, I have a £10 minimum for new customers now but it depends where you clean.  I'm in a fairly prosperous area of the south-east but those rates wouldn't stick up north.  I nearly always charge more for a first clean myself because some people (thankfully very few) only want a one-off and won't tell you that before you quote.  If it's a first clean but they look in a fairly reasonable condition, then I sometimes won't charge the extra.
