Does anyone know anything about toughened glass. (am i spelling toughened correctly?).
 I was working with a pvc window installer the other day doing an initial clean straight after installation and he said he would prefer if i used no scraper blades or anything rougher than a sponge as he said the glass scratched very easily.
 I have done loads of toughened windows before ,using my normal tools and have never had a problem.
 I explained this to him but agreed to do it his way as he was paying me an hourly rate. I also told him I would take a lot longer his way.
 I didn't want to use my normal methods only to find out that the installer was right. After all the voice of expierence and all that. Any info appreciated
Also has any one hints for dark marks on pvc frames

If you can't be bothered to look at the link, which I suggest you do, in summary new toughened glass can be prone to a manufacturing fault which makes it sensitive to scapers and can be easily scratched.  The answer seems to be to test a small, discrete, portion of the glass, before you 'go for it' with your six inch scraper.

Also your spelling of 'toughened' seems okay to me.

Hi Mobile Foam

A lot of new glass, especially for business's, is coated with something to stop the heat of the sun going through the glass whilst allowing the light through.

It's not the glass that scratches - it's the coating.

We've now come across this 3 times this year, twice in commercial premises and once in a rich persons house. It has a funny light blue'ish tinge to it.

I don't know if that the same as the glass you cleaned.

Usually the toughened bit of the glass is simply glass that has different tempering and stress relieving processes at the end of it's manufacturing.

Car windscreens are toughend glass but with a plastic layer in between and that don't scratch. Also we do the windows in a bank and the cashiers glass protection definately doesn't scratch easily.

Maybe then it's a coated glass?
