bolting cage to van floor?
« on: July 10, 2009, 09:32:47 pm »
guys, I picked up my sexy new van today along with the cage for my new 650ltr tank i had made but i have a problem.

how do I bolt it to the floor? I've been told to just drill through the floor and using big backing plates bolting it down is not enough. but trying to find the chassis is gonna be a mere.

is there a nack to it? what do you advise?

please dont be shy guys, any help is good help.

Mr D I would take it to your local garage as to a professional it isn't a very big job. it shouldnt cost that much.
Reaching parts traditional window cleaners can not reach.

Hi. If you fit it yourself your insurance may be invalid as you are a window cleaner not an engineer who can issue a certificate on the fitting for your insurance, thats what i got.

I'm in Southampton with the same van as you (Renault Trafic) with a 650ltr Ionic system in the back if you want to take a look/measurements etc.

They say thats its obviously best to bolt through the chassis, But someone told me that if you drill through this that it could void your mot, coz the chassis should be intact, and drilling it would weaken it. Has anyone else heard of this  ???

I have mine bolted through the floor with large spreader plates underneath.

I once found some high tensile U bolts (for leaf springs) from a fastner supplier which you could straddle the chassis with and bolt to your cage through the floor.  I would put a speader plate between the U bolt and chassis at the bottom to prevent the U bolt denting/ collapsing the chassis when tightening up. How you would find the correct place to drill the holes to line everything up is another thing.
