My pal had one for a month, he runs a couple of trannies but wanted something cheaper diesel wise to run about in, not suitable for wfp at all, rear opening door and size in all crap for this job.

Disagree I think it depends on the work and the set up. I have often wondered if a smaller van would be useful for the awkward access customers and I know (I started with an astra van) that you can use them on residential and it will be OK not good but alright. Com, thats a different story I would go bigger. Thats why MJH said what he did as he is 90% commercial (I read it in one of your posts earlier hence the  ). I know where he is coming from! You can get by with a van that size but if you want to expand the business and make the most of the chances that wfp presents then there is no point in messing about with a van like that. You will only go out and end up replacing it. What I am saying is there are more cons than pros i am afraid. I know because I've been there done that! - I ended up getting rid of it and getting a transporter in the end just wish I had got that in the first place

I have had a couple of combo's in the past they are alot more practical and roomy than the astra, the 1.7dti is a good little engine,  a 350l tank flat or upright is perfect for one of them and you get proper rear doors and a side door.

I have recently starting window cleaning and i sold my car to by a van. I brought a 51 plate astra van.

I like it. I brought it because i wanted to have something that was like a car to drive after having to give up a car. I am fine with just having a rear door. Im young and can crawl in if i need to.

I have everything i need to access at the back of the van. Hose reel, batt, pump controller. My 250l tank is as far forward as i can get it.

It works for me but i am only part time.

Fair play to you that is the spirit A astra van is ok until you start scaling up. You will be fine and will be able to afford to replace it should the time come.  I meant that if I had the time again I would just go straight to the bigger van but that is based on how my business worked out.

What have u got in your van that i dont that needs more space? A bigger tank?

The way i look at it is that if you know that you dont have much water you are careful not to waste any. Im sure this view will change in a couple of months lol.

i started with a old astra van it had a 250ltr flat bed tank 100m hose an a backpack, poles were held up by roof with pole holders, as i only do domestic the van worked well cheap to run, i would have a new shape no problem as size wise it good for domestic, as for growing upwards it would make a good second van on the road. i believe new shape will hold a 350ltr tank.
