Hi Guys have a problem with a 3 seater today which im hoping someone may help wih.
Suite was a Laura Ashley cream cotton, quite heavy fabric
was presprayed with micro splitter and xtracted with water rinse with t/m machine, came up fine, used blower to dry as each cushion cleaned

Sprayed a solvent  protector on afterwards when suite was slightly damp

packed away got a bill out for customer and went back in room and where the hands would grip the arms of the suite right on the curve of the fabric in a curve about 6 inches long and 1 " wide was a bright yellow stain

Have tried som m-s and charley spotter and eco spotter with small results

have told cust will wait untill tomorrow when dry and see then, hopefully will spot out when dry


any ideas?? poss browning or I think there is a underlying problem under the fabric causing wicking maybe, any how any ideas would be useful.

going out for a while now but hopefully some answers when im back

Could be something underneath the fabric either showing through while it is wet or colour transfered from underneath while wet. You say that you used MS but which one? MS is a great product but you should be using a ph sensitive product iw wool safe, MS comes in 3 different ph's.

You can't do much until it's dry so I would ring the customer (not the other way round) and arrange a visit even if the stain has gone you could look a hero that way, go armed with solvent and bleach.

Don't carry on with any more cleaning attempts on it!!

It's very likely a silicone-based protector.  It shows up like this when it's been over-applied, because it doesn't rinse away with water very easily.  I had a similar thing recently that looked like someone had doused the suite in paint!

It'll disappear after the fabric's dry, so you don't want to have knackered the fabric by furiously scrubbing away to remove these "stains" and cause a problem when there wasn't one!  Reassure the customer you won't take payment until they're happy.  Just try not to poo your pants in the mean time

One thing I will add, is that your first reaction really should have been to dry the area off immediately - 90% of the time, a "frightener" that appears when something is dampened will disappear when it is dry.  This could have saved you and your client a whole lot of stress... indeed they might not even have had to know about it, and you could have walked away from the job happy with a cheque in your hand!

I use a spare length of extraction hose off the exhaust port of my Ninja for this, but obviously a hair dryer run on cool setting will do for smaller areas, if your machinery doesn't have that facility. (make sure your waste tank is empty and doesn't stink when using the exhaust air, and keep windows open!)

Cheers Jim, Did  try yest after cleaning to force dry with hairdryer but no avail, went back today one arm was fine other arm had a slight mark on, cust didnt want any more chems or rubbing of suite and she is going to order some arm covers.

one of those customers who youll never please so walked out with nowt

still learning 18 years on!

You can see where it looks as though the protector has just dribbled all over the arm.

The mark that remained - is that one of the ones that you made attempts to remove after you saw the problem?  Hopefully if it ever crops up again you'll know what to do.

Quite coincidental that I never got paid for the suite in my picture either, must be a jinx on silicone protector residues!  My problem with payment was for something completely unrelated though, the marks on this one disappeared completely.

Just a slight point could it be that the suite had been proofed before and that it hadnt worn off and the protector was doing its job.

Sorry I probably wasn't clear in my first post above - I was referring to silicone protector applied when new, NOT the protector used at the time of the problem.
