Does anyone print there own business cards
« on: March 27, 2009, 12:39:15 pm »
Does anyone here print there own business cards if so what is the quality like.

I'm thinking of buying some business card sheets which are perforated that you can put through your inkjet printer but if they come out rubbish i will forget it.

I used to buy business cards over the net but its rare anyone is in at home for the delivery these days.

Printing the cards yourself, even if you do quality artwork - always looks a bit amateurish. It says "I'm not here to stay" in peoples minds.

I've recently had some printed at this site  - http://www.printcarrier.com/gb/
You do your own artwork and upload it.

I used to be a printer for 18yrs before I went window cleaning, and I would say the quality is great especially if you keep the dpi above 600 and go for the 300gsm card.
The price is amazing for full colour @ £31.00 for 500.

The key is to get your design looking good and professional from the start.
Keep it clean, classy and clear. Avoid comical logos or cartoony pictures. IMHO.

I used to do my own , but Vista print are that cheap its not worth it . Vistaprint use Royal Mail to deliver  so if there is no one home you can go to the Sorting office/ Post Office  to pick them up

not worth it anymore

Vistaprint are so cheap, the 250 free cards are great, you only pay about 4 quid postage

i allways find if a customer wants your services they will ask you, if they ask for a card, the chances of getting the customer are low

I printed my own cards when I first started and have still got a couple that I keep for old times sake. As home jobs go they're OK but they do look...well... home-made!

There's a card machine in Putney that does 100 for £8 complete with logo and I use that now. They're probably a bit expensive but 100 cards lasts me for ages and they look quality.

I would still buy from good print but if there is no one at home i don't get the cards.

Looks like i will have to visit a local printer.

And as for vista print i think there crap but they do the job.
I have have several lots off of them and then went to goodprint and then you realise how bad the vista print one's are.
But you can't complain when you are only spending £4

I've printed my own cards before but started using Vistaprint instead.  After the first batch, I deceided to pay them to laminate them as I think that looks better.
The main problem I had with printing my own was in lining up the printing with the perforated sheets.  Although the software helps a lot, I could never seem to get it quite right somehow.

i have a theory on biz cards ( this i find is only with domestic jobs though )

if a customer wants your services they will ask you for a price and you will get a YES or NO on the spot ( very little of the " i will think about it " convert into customers, if they ask for a card in the street, the chances of them becoming a customer are low, they will either be put in the bin or put in a cupboard drawer and never see the light of day till its time for the bin

so why waste money on them  ??? ???

now for commercial work, i cannot let you into my secret  ;)

I too use Vistaprint for most of my stationery. I even run my website from them. £10 a month for unlimited pages etc. I also wait for the freebies to come on show like the brochures 25 for free. I use them as part of my marketing.
