renault kangoo

just wondering guys.i just bought a renault kangoo van 1.5 dci and i went today to pay the road tax.99 pounds for 6 months or 180 for 12 months.it's always been that much or it  just has been modified?it has  a quite small engine,54 reg.i have a friend with a renault megane 1,5 dci and pays 35 a year.just don't understand the big difference on road tax.

hi mate you will have to pay more for vans than a car mine is a combo 56 reg 1.3diesel and i pay the same tax as you but the corsa with the same engine is only £35 a year the wife drives a peugeot 308 1.6hdi and thats only £35 a year as well. dave

hi isn't that strange?just checked the co2 emisions and they are the same as for a normal car but still we have to pay more.i had also a astra van the same 180 per year.it's not fair but we have to live with that.cheers
