how small? if you want really small you cant get smaller than a backpack, Shurflo or Hudson. bit bigger would be a trolley or sack truck, put the backpack on the trolley and wheel it round. or a bit more purpose made would be the purefreedom or peter fogwill style. both take 25ltr tubs one of them takes 2x25ltrs, this is what i'm using, for just over a month now. and i really like it.
any bigger than that is a small car/van mount of around 250ltrs. again purefreedom do a full DIY install for £699, my mate installed one and he's very happy with it. had to take the back seats out though!

everything is there in a box off pure freedom, everything youll need. it didn't take him long, and i'm sure youll know someone who is better than you at DIY. first thing, its nowt to be scared of... really, when you see it all and youve got it running, you'll wonder what the fuss is about. but heres what i would do,
visit Matts site mentioned above it is brilliant. you'll save lots of money sourcing the parts yourself. whether you go down the backpack/trolley or the car/van mount, have a look, its friendly and full of experienced wfp'ers. and as i said there really is nothing to be scared of, how hard can it be, its water in a tank (large or small) pumped up a pole through a pipe with a battery to power the pump. thats about it really

ALL the industry standard parts are available off the shelf, they all use standard fittings ( or threads ) and it really is as easy as push a few connection together and away you go, oh and you will have saved a few quid and you will understnad how it all works, so when something goes wrong, you can look at the parts and find the problem and either fix it or replace it

yup, but not forgetting that you still need to make pure water. get a TDS meter, 15-17 quid off Ebay. dip it in a glass of tap water, if the reading is hmmm less than 70-80ppm you could only use a DI vessel full of Resin. anything above that then look to buy an RO filter, (reverse osmosis). this is my next purchase cos im going through lots of resin and its very expensive. my tap TDS is 98-104. an RO although still being alot of money for a decent 300gpd will pay for itself in a few months compared to just using resin. still use resin with an RO but it lasts forever.

it is alot of money mate, compared to what you need trad. but it'll pay for itself over time. just think no chance of falling/ladder slipping. i had 2 last year, not serious but its a week off work at a time, twisted ankle and a bashed knee.
if you have a van, then if i was you. i'd buy a tank for the van 400ltr ish and a backpack, so any that are gonna be too awkward for lots of hose or bad access then backpack it. but i do like working with my trolley im doing good money with, but ive not used anything else properly. but i do use my 50mtrs of microbore from the car for the odd house and i just hate it.

i love my trolley, its a sack truck based trolley

i have tried with a hose from the van, but its not for me, the hose gets caught under EVERYTHING and its a pain in the backside

i would buy a sack truck and try it from there, even if you decide on a van mount, you have only wasted 25 quid on a sack truck as all the other parts can be used in the van mount

you are right it is alot of money and you have to think of the safety side of it especially with young families etc!!!
I was looking at spending about 2k on the system (already got a berlingo van) but since coming on here and reading all your posts not sure its worth the money as diy would be a tad cheaper. how do you find using your trolley from the tank? do you carry barrels? i think maybe a trolley is the way to go working from a tank sounds like a good idea as if it were solely a van mount i can see the hose being a bit of a pain especially when alot of it is being used.
