I was gonna post this yesterday, i am in my first year just, but last year my earnings were very low as i was employed for 6 months, then unemployed for a bit... so tax credits for the current year go off last years figures, and i am entitled to a fair whack because i earnt little and have a child now, once i kick in this years accounts though it will go down alot but iwill still get a bit, my mate is a builder, he said he declared 19 k last year , but he has 4 kids and wife doesnt work so gets £600 a month credits.... So its worth looking it up,
try here -
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/TaxCreditsandChildBenefit/index.htmtheres a calculator there to that will tell you what your entitled to if anything
and before anyone moans about benefit cheats bla bla, this is a legitiamate subsidy its why you pay NI, why not get it back!!!
Only one warning, dont spend it all till your sure your earnings are what you say they are because they claw it back if its wrong!!!
