any one been bitten by customer dogs, and what if any legal action can be taken as i have lost over two weeks work through hand been infected and not being able 2 use it. any info would be helpfull ta steve

I'd say you have a claim...but what was the attitude of the owners about their dog biting you?

they are very sorry and suprised that he bit me i have letter and cheque that i have nt cashed as it does not cover my loss of earnings

I'd say you ought to phone up Claims Direct or other no-win-no-fee company and see what they think.

It's good you've got a letter and cheque as that proves they feel liable. And you're absolutely right not to cash the cheque!!!

When i was 4 i was badly bitten by a dog on my face, still have some faded scars. Ever since Im very wary of dogs, i spray them with the water and they stay away

If a dog bites a human, that you needed to go to hospital normally they would be put down, what if it was a child. I say morally take legal action. Although being a business owner, if it was me I might consider how that might effect my reputation. Window Cleaner Claims Customer for Damages etc.

Really it’s a bit of a tough one. Will you be doing them again if the dog is still there?

does what they offer you come in some way close to what you have lost or is it way off?

You might find if you involve a claims court they might give a better more realistic offer before it get to that, who knows.

I've been bitten three times in seven years.  Twice by Jack Russells (they only look small) and another time by a Border Collie.

None of the bites were bad, nothing more than a hard nip that bruised me; apart from the second Jack Russel bite.  The 'little tyke' bit my fingers when I pushed a 'your window cleaner has been' chit through my customer's letter box.

We played tug-of-war with my fingers, which ended up bruised and bleeding.

Unfortunately the dog died of old age before I could give it a good kicking when it's owner was out.

But in your case, I reckon a phone call to the scum bag 'no win no fee' guys would be worth a shot.  Your customer should be covered by this sort of stuff from their house insurance anyway.

If these people have pet insurance, or home contents insurance  it will cover them for the dog biting you under most circumstances. So its not personal ie you suing them.

I wouldnt wear losing two weeks money, and not pursuing it.

What were the circs though, did you enter their garden without their knowledge, ie didnt you knock? Did they have any signs up warning of the dog?

If you are lawfully on their premises, and as the window cleaner you are, then I would think you be able to claim loss of earnings, distress, and personal injury, which would be paid out by their insurance company

i have been bitten twice in 20 yrs window cleaning, both times the customers said the dogs are fine they wont hurt you!!

 The problem is many dogs get frightened of the clattering ladders etc and react. Also all those yrs of winding them up when they are the other side of the glass!

 I hate how this country is going with regard to the "sue sue" mentality like the U.S.A has in past yrs.
If i was in your shoes i would go and visit the customer, show them your injury, explain you have been off for two weeks and explain that you have lost two weeks earnings and ask if they can check out thier insurance.

 If you cant just forget the injury  then go down the friendly route. If they are not obliging and helpful and sorry then join the U.S.A!!!!!!

 Problem is in our job we are open to being sued  if things went wrong, and if that ever happened we would hope our customers would be understanding and considerate............ difficult.......

A rotwiller and alsation had me once, the rotwiller bit my arm and both legs, fortuatly didnt break skin

I CRAPPED MYSELF!

Didnt get a "sorry" and soon after they cancelled me as "the windows look fantastic after youve done them but they are dirty again in a couple of days"

If you are seriously bitten by a dog you should report it to the police and make a statement. The owner will be informed and made to muzzle their dog when out in public. If the owner doesn't apply the muzzle and their dog then bites another person and it is reported to the police for a second time, the dog is put down.

A few years back I was badly bitten by a dog off the lead wandering, so I went hospital then made a statement down the police station. A short while later that same dog bit the face of a very young child. The parents informed the police and because I'd already made a statement of complaint they had the power to put the dog down. Thank goodness, why should we live our lives in fear of dog owners who can't control their dogs and leave them to roam freely without any responsility for the safety of others.
