« on: March 11, 2009, 04:46:31 pm »
Hi am looking for a few answers...

Have just put together my HF5 4040 membrane system:

Water into prefilters is 262
Water out of Membrane is around 16ppm...is this about right?....

Cheers

Dave

Mine is around 300-400 in
and around 10-12 out
Have you run it for an hour or so on flush mode ?

My own is around 0.175ppm at the tap, have water pressure of about 65psi which returns me product water at around 0.005 to 0.007ppm.
Which also means I can clean windows without bothering with a DI vessel.
At your reading though you are certainly going to need a DI vessel!

Are you having the same reading after it has been running for a few hours?

And what is your water pressure like?

The higher the pressure the better your membrane will perform....

Flush the new RO for a good 30-60 mins to get out any coating on the membrane, they come coated so they don`t bring in harmful bacteria when shipped from abroad it also stops the membrane from drying out.The reading after a 40x40 should be no higher than 4-5 with the waste ratio right i used to get my old 1 down to 1-2 after RO.

It depends what his water pressure is too and flow of water.

as i had this problem and June helped me for weeks trying to get it down and trying new things because the pressure is so rubish. Its settled now to around 18 19 ppm.

So check ur pressure.

ok all and thanks for your advice and comments...

Am now getting between 16 - 18 ppm....now this is with a low pressure of 45psi...so all said and done...it looks like its about right....

This is where I thought that running 2x di vessels would do the trick....

So when the 1st di vessel gets tired...I'll bang on a new one with clean resin and run the old one as the work horse and the new to finish it all off...

Cheers for your timely comments....

Dave.

Another question...just to make sure I have got it all right ...

Now I have the HF5-4040 membrane which has a green band on one end...now the instructions say that:

Remove the end cap from the feed end (the one with only one port) and feed the membrane into  with the black brine seal going in last....

Silly question are they talking about the green band or the very end bands?

Cheers
Dave.

If you want to bring it down further then consider a booster pump ( about £200)
and boost the incoming water to about 4.5 bar.
My mains water TDS is 325 ppm, out of the 4 x 40 at around 005 ppm.

The green band is probably just an identifying band.  They will be talking about the black seal at one end that sticks out an an angle from the membrane.

So it looks like my water 262tds and about 45psi produces water to around 16-20 ppm then it will be pushed in and out of a 13l di vessel...so hopefully that will do the trick...anyone else run with these types of numbers?

Cheers
Dave.

ps..it's great to have something to ticker about with once again..things to do...try it all out with the di vessel then start playing around with the 12v cutoff switch and then install the bilge pump into tank ...then, then, then  ;D ;D ;D

Good night I have had enough

The green band is the last thing you should see when you insert it into the houseing.

Arhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...so this is the brine seal they speak of...

The first picture is of a brine seal sent to me by GAPS and the second is one I took about 20 minutes ago and you can clearly see they differ...

But all is well that ends well...

It just that the instructions did'nt seem to match what I could see in front of me and I did not want to screw up and waste my money. The black brine seal to which they refer was infact a creme colour seal...

Cheers for all your help..esp NWH, Alex.G

ps June at GAPS is very, very helpfull.
