forget the transit, go for a vivaro or movano, why ?   because you can have so much more fun spending loads of money trying to keep them on the road, trust me i know, i get to spend loads of money on my movano all the time :'(

cant go wrong with a transit, good choice  ;D

Rugby , Im looking for a new van, I have seen a 140 bhp master/movano with 50k on the clock, but feel a vw transporter t5 will be the safer bet, What sort of problems have you had and what mileage?

A Transit will rust....you just have to accept that but a good workhorse.
If you're going down the 2nd hand route then aim for an ex BT van, usually lowish milage for year with roof rack, ploe carrier and plenty of internal racking thrown in too.

i've had a swb 06 hiace recently and i'm really pleased with it. can't fault one thing.

it has a steel bulkhead, 1063kg max payload, best reability record and is narrow enough to get onto customers drives . plenty of space too.

if anything does go wrong though it will be more expensive to repair than a transit.

I don't thing you'll go far wrong with either choice though

The only problem with the Hiace is the relatively low payload (1063kg) this would mean that you could not fit anything larger than a 500litre fitted system. The SWB Transit on the other hand starts at about 1200kg payload and goes on upwards.

Another choice is the VW T5 Transporter, it's not as large as the Transit (better for manoeuvring), but does go up to 1300kg (T32 102PS) on the payload.

I personally would go for hiace, because of the reliability factor. i have an 03 from new & it only has 1 service a year thats it, recently small bill for bits, but only £200 inc, service.

I have recently brought a 120bhp version & thats absolutely fantastic.

If you need the higher payload you need the 300 version this is 1200 kilo rated.
