Ladder climbs
« on: March 30, 2005, 07:20:21 pm »
Since going to a pole six weeks ago I have reduced my daily ladder climbs from about average 70 to average 10 ( I cannot quite ditch them yet due to climbing onto deep flat roof extensions, getting over gates and even one estate which is still far quicker to do off ladders.)

Gotta be safer!

How many ladder climbs do you do daily? Trad and Pole users please reply!
It's a game of three halves!

almost none...just the odd access problem.....less than 1 in 20 I reckon...and none are used to actually do the job...

Not being WFP I must do 50 to 140 each day!

Particularly since I work with Wor Lass (not during school holidays) who does the ground floor and is getting quick enough (nearly) to keep up with me on the 1st floor.

About 12 per 5 weeks.....only 6 houses left that I use ladders on, they will be changing or going soon.  8)

I only do ground floor stuff as a rule (there's 3 of us) but I still need an A frame ladder for most houses bacause I'm only 5' 7" and a bit.

The 'bit' part is very important when your short.

Today I counted how many time I went up and down it.

Yes I know it's only 8ft high but still ....

92 times. Or very near abouts.

Ok I know most times it was just two or three rungs but still 92 times. And I have to carry it everywhere.

Have you tried slipping your channel down in its holder to reach the top part of the window? You can buy metre long squeegee channels & 36' rubbers. You can loose the ladders then. Its just a pressure issue then, you'll get the knack in a day.

Yeah Ian.

Too true. Those A frames made by Ramsay are very very heavy. The bells are so loud I have tinitus.  ;D

Hi Karlos

I tried longer squeegies but it was no help.

I can't seem to get on with anything other than a 12".

Am I getting old and stubborn etc?

I had to use a ladder today to get onto a  'deep' flatroof to get to the window above.....but took my short pole up with me........funny how you get 'unused' to heights really quickly....woooo...

I did seventeen houses; all pretty much identical (an army married quarter estate), each one is four climbs of the 'big ladder'; so that's 68 ladder climbs, plus probably about 20 climbs up an A Frame, plus about 4 climbs over gates.

It's Easter Holidays for the kids, so Wor Lass is off.  Had she been with me, doing the bottoms; it'd be a LOT more climbs.

Am I a monkey or what?

Have you tried polling instead?
