drying up the glass quicker
« on: February 15, 2009, 04:52:05 pm »
i have been thinking about this one recently, i know ionics have come up with a suction device, but it is all to costly, now here is a potability, super squeegee rollers, now i saw this idea with the roller on a brush to walk up walls
what if this super squeegee was on there instead of a walk up roller, you could after washing the glass run this roller to take of most of the water resulting in the glass drying in seconds

heres the link

Sounds good in theory but not sure whether it would work. A hairdryer would do the trick though but very much time consuming. :(

the point is to dry of any excess water from the glass, this would help to dry it up in seconds, ok may not be much good in summer, but in winter time it can take all day for the water to dry up, and customers dont like that, but with this roller you just run it up the glass to remove most of the water resulting in it drying super fast, just an idea

The question is how water is actually left on a pane of glass 5 seconds after you finish it. I say it's literally a few drops of water so is it worth the hassle.
The there's the drops of water left on the frame above the glass. How are you going to get that off because for all the effort of getting the water off the glass, you walk away then a run of droplets run down off the upvc onto the glass again.

I admire the thinking behind this (particulary with some customers) but if the frames not dried then you'd be wasting your time.

Hey Joe its not a bad theory  :)
I was going to post had anyone found a squegee rubber that slid better than the pulex I use. I have a couple of houses where spotting is a problem and I HAVE to squegee the glass afterwards, the rubbers grab the glass. But your idea with the roller squegee may work if the roller is non absorbent, but then maybe there would be roller edge trails just like we get off the edges of trad squegees. ?
Well worth trying out.  8) 8)

Most experienced wfp's would already no that if you try to dry or completely squeegee of a window that has been cleaned with pure water normally result's in some sort of mark's or stain's.
Its far better to let them dry normally.

Cracked glass is something your not allowed to talk about on this forum - didn't you know that Jo? it's worse than swearing.  :o

The guys with heaters are worried it might get out.

I've seen evidence of cracked glass on other forums and although some of it is down to user error it has to be the biggest drawback of going hot. I think your insurance would need to be of the type that covers the glass worked on - the bill for repair could be expensive on some properties.
For me, i would want a system that gave me hot at the flick of a switch on the pole for the odd jobs that needed a short burst.

Havn`t crack a single pane of glass with mine and don`t intend to i would say there`s no chance now due to weather warming up more, there would be more chance with a gas heater if you don`t watch the temp dial as they heat the water far to much for cleaning windows.

The excess and rise in premium for claiming on standard windows wouldnt be worth it, but if there was a huge wall of glass you cracked ?? RUN and never go back  :) Just kidding, but i dont like the thought of it personally
