£30.00 is a good rate per hour on regular cleans but I charge more for first cleans and one offs, take all aspects into consideration ie. access, slippery surfaces etc.,do a full risk assesment on the property, plus they could be a lot worse than you think but if not it's a bonus.

I clean about 30 schools in and around Essex. I have no problem with payment, i get paid in the midddle of the month after the clean( e.g clean in March means paid in April ).

Have been cleaning them for about 12 years now, i know most of the care takers / site managers well now and they leave you to it.

Some schools are even once a year but then again some are every half term.

Most of the schools pay direct but some are paid by local council if they are grant maintained.

I put up prices by 15% every 3 years.

Also they know they will not be as clean as house windows etc. as they get so much people passing through the building.

Make sure you do a risk assessment and  method statement

Anything else please ask

Darren

I have stated we don't move the kids work but, we do move school letters and posters to allow us to clean the windows

Funny enough I got a call from a school at 10am to say ive won the contract to do there windows and they need it done in the next half term so 10 days away, Schools normally work on budgets so see if you can work with them and see if you can find out what it is, also schools get prices from 3 companys, this then goes to governers then they make a decision on who to employ, the one im doing is 6 monthly and internal is 12 monthly,

Personally I would charge £40.00 an hour but I am in Surrey and prices varie through out the country, some people quote by the hour and some by the job itself, pictures would be helpfull.

Come on, £40 an hour, bit steep, i know we like to earn a few quid but not daylight robbery. At that rate everyone will be a window cleaner

you have to not just think of the hourly rate but what the job is worth to them.

you dont say what size the school is and how many windows

but most schools can be done within two days

you say 30 an hr thats 240 a day     under £500 to have all the glass cleaned isnt  too expensive  in fact its cheap for the benefit they get from it

so 30 s not too much and you could push higher if you wanted

remember it has to be done on half term week and all the other schools in the area will be looking for theirs done so you will be competing on availibility as well as price

good luck

It's easy if you don't get talking to some motor mouth and you can't get away from, mind you I do a massive house and charge £70.00 for it monthly and I am only there an hour,it cannot be done trad as windows are far too high for ladders, the people are very happy with that price as the previous WC charged more but I don't know if he was trad or not and  managed to clean all windows,I don't mean to boast or anything but personally I have alot of outgoings and can't afford to work for peanuts plus if you do quote cheap in my opinion you will regret it later,I think my prices are reasonable and you get what you pay for in this world I am afraid, like I say you can get away with prices like that where I am but maybe not as much up north, when I stared I could make £15-£20 per hour as I quoted far too cheap and was trad and really regreted it afterwards,I would easily make £25-30 trad let alone WFP,you are obviously quoting too low or not doing enough, get off your lazy arse and get your finger out. ;D ;D ;D ;D

in full agreement slash

you need to think on several levels when pricing

theres the breakeven ....................anything below that and you are losing money

the survival     .................................what you need to earn to pay the bills

profit...............................................the extra you earn that makes it all worthwhile and gives you money to reinvest in equipment etc

you also need to consider what the job is worth to your customer and charge accordingly

they will respect you and you will respect yourself

The 1`s that are not charging enough and are really struggling due to just 1 weeks worth of bad weather need to re-think things now,if your business is set up right you should be doing enough to be able to re invest in your business and still make a profit still even with down time due to things like holidays and weather.I`ve seen some comments from people who are almost down to there last £ after paying there TAX bill,IMO there not running there business to it`s full potential there either happy with what they have or can`t be bothered to better themselves, just my opinion.

That is so true.

I hear people on here unable to pay their bills cos of a few days of snow or not having enough to spend on hols. This is after window cleaning for years and years.

Some of these guys also say they cant get new work and use this emoticon ::) to diss others. Those guys will unfortunately always struggle.

We should always have enough cash to last at least 2 months. Look at Matt after his hernia op, we dont hear him saying how skint he is. He has probably saved enough to last him till he get back to work.
