Don't know what's going on there Marc?
I've been canvassing properly for the last 10 days, and so far I've accumulated over 30 new accounts, £300+ of work, by doing just that, knocking on doors!!
I've followed advice given on here, and its worked a treat! My patter goes like so:
Me: Hello/ Good evening! Sorry to disturb you. I was just wondering if you had a window cleaner at all?
You will get one of 3 responses:
1. Yes, thanks.
2. No thanks!
3. No I don't.
For each of the above responses I say:
1. Ok, thanks for your time, can I just leave my card with you in case you have a problems with current cleaner? (As you pass them your business card)
2. Ok, thanks anyway. (Walk away)
3. Would you be interested in having one? If so I can give you a quote now.
And the rest will just flow from there.
One thing I always remember, is to smile, the ladies like it especially I find!
For any houses that don't answer, I leave a covering letter, as opposed to a flyer, introducing myself to them, and what services I offer.
