New piece of gear.....opinions please
« on: January 10, 2009, 08:26:18 pm »

Evening all,

Im seriously considering investing in a rotovac as ive seen one for real in action and the carpet was cleaned in a fraction of the time as oppose to cleaning with the wand and no difference in quality of clean, the only thing was i left the carpet a little wetter (not much) but that was sorted with a couple of speed dryers, other folks have prob asked similiar questions but what are you guys opinions on the rotovac?

Also would you get maxium beneifts if it was used with a TM as oppose a portie?

Cheers

I have used the Rotovac but feel our RX20 is far quicker and does a better job, particularly on large
soiled areas.

you go over it with a bonnet to help the drying times even more and might take any soil thats left on top of the carpet fibres :)

it baffles me why anyone would buy a piece of equipment for hundreds of pounds which leaves carpets

wetter and then have to go over with a bonnet to dry  ::)

Its not doing the job properly if it creates more work for you, surely ?

Er,

Surely the problem isn't the rotovac it's what's at the other end.

I don't know how they compare on carpet drying performance, but the newer triple head Rotovac 360 looks interesting, easy to use and can also be used on tile and grout, so another revenue stream is created at nil investment. Could be quicker on carpet too as you don't have the uncleaned streak between the heads to clean over again.

I'm led to believe by many TM users that the RX20 is the superior machine, but only really viable on larger commercial jobs. I've also been led to believe that the Rotovac and Rotovac 360, along with the Rotary Dry Master, are a more practical proposition for residential and small scale/light commercial.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Which Rotovac is Brenden B referring to ?

The DHX twin headed of the 360 single large head.

Either should work with a portable and leave the carpet drier then a wand - thats according the the manufacturers blurb.
If the carpets are being left wetter maybe too much water is going down and the machine not powerful enough to lift it up (sorry, obvious statement).
Perhaps try adjusting so less water, letting the "scrub" machine do the cleaning.

Goran Knight has the 360, maybe he could refresh us with his comments now he has had it a good few months.
but remember Goran has a TM too.

The 360 is on my wish list for 2009 - whether I get it is a different matter!

Solutions UK price was about £300 less then Alltec (as listed) - but who knows what deal can be got with Jan sales on ;).

Its not only whats on the other end. If its the original Rotovac, they take a bit of getting used to like anything else. If you set the hieght wheel too low (from the adjuster) you lose vacuum, if you set it too high you lose airflow and its harder work to move. Its has to be set so's that the vac heads just start to lift from the carpet pile. Problem I found was the amount of swirling marks left on some carpets.

Hi all

Yes i have the 360 and i love it, it really does show just what a wand isn't doing!

As for the dryness of the carpet, try this little experiment... clean half a carpet with a wand and half with 360, the 360 side will admitedly feel wetter to the touch, now wait 30mins and go over the whole area with the 360, through the clear suction pipe you will see a load of water going up from the wand half and not a lot from the 360 side.

What this tells me is that the 360 is pulling more water back up to the surface of the pile so it can evaporate more easily whereas the wand is leaving more deep in the pile.

The new heads are also a brilliant idea aswell as the hard floor head that comes with the machine you can now get a drive board for bonetting and a carpet head which has an integrated brush for agitation too (good if you run chem through your machine) and a stair head(good for when you are doing loads of stairs)

Cheers Goron

Why have the other power brushes gone out of fashion so to speak. The Extracta Scrubba De Luxe and the one which Alltec sold never seem to be used as they were some years ago.
They were quite good pieces of equipment but I would rather use a wand myself at the moment as I found them cumbersome apart from when cleaning very large areas.
