Depends whats on the flyers, i found in the past can be anything from 0% to 5% depending on the area IE If they have a window cleaner or not.

The nice thing about leaflets is that you get calls for months after, I tend to do spot area,s then blanket the area with the best responce.
i.e. I had four people leafleting for 2 hrs last week and to date I,ve had one call so far..
My eldest lad droped 500 (i know I paid for them) same time diffrent area he,s now got 8 new customers and 6 waiting for quotes.
The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

surely it takes just about as much time to stick a leaflet through the letterbox...as to knock the door....

15,000 leaflets delivered at 100 leaflets per hour will take 150 hours to deliver.  It's a tall order to do by yourself.  I think when I started I posted around 4000 leaflets.

I reckon if you do post them all, with a 1 to 2 percent success rate you should get between 150 to 300 customers; probably spread out all over the place.

Then the challenge will be to get out and clean all those 'drive betweens'.

As you do, over the months, people will know you from your leaflet and your customer base will grow.  This takes time though, and as Duke says, canvassing is the quickest route to building up a quality residential round.

I didn't have to guts to canvass when I first started; in fact it took about six months before I had enough confidence to do it.

My advise would be to drop the leaflets; and when you get a clump of potential customers from one area/street; go and canvass there.  Do a 'search' on this site for canvassing tips/tecniques first though.

Good luck and stay determined.

(Wor Lass has just looked over my shoulder and read my post.  She thinks I'm very boring!  She'd be right!)

We get quite a bit of new work from recommendations from the local double glazers.

Titancleaners - as already stated, if you just go out and distribute your 15000 flyers throughout your 20 mile radius (40 mile catchment area), you will end up with very few jobs from it, you are spreading yourself too far and wide.  We have all done it in the past and all that happens is you end up very despondant at the lack of work you have got for all your effort.

Do some research, look at whether peoples windows look clean or not, if they don't knock on their door and their neighboours, and present yourself and your flyer to them, tell them you are cleaning in this area and would they like their windows cleaned.  If they are not in, then you put the flyer through the door and call back later.

We have a small ad in the local paper every week (£10.50pw) if we get a call from it and it's a new area we tell the customer that it's not an area we cover, but we will canvas the area and if there is enough business we will start cleaning there.

We then  go out and canvas that area hard over the next couple of weeks to see what the response is.  Quite often the person rings back and says she has found some more customers for us.  Had a call on Thursday, woman presented me with 8 house addresses that all wanted a window cleaner in the same street, they haven't seen their previous cleaner since October.

Good luck

Windows_Chepstow and Lionheart say it all, really good advice guys, can't top that ;)

Justin Ruggles is one cleaner that has done it all through ads and leaflets, so if Justin does a post he will give a different slant, and he has certainly been successful in his approach, if you dread the thought of knocking on peoples doors, check out some of his posts on the subject.
Click on Justin's name, go to his profile and do a search of his posts. He's been a pretty prolific poster, so the one you want may take some hunting down ;D

I think just leaflet and or call around the area where you have work already.

Maybe 20 or so places either side on a regular basis.

Keep doing that for 6 months with every new job you get and you'll end up with more than enough work.
