Mattress
« on: January 10, 2009, 03:16:30 pm »
Just had my 2nd call in as many weeks asking if I cleaned mattresses and told them no.
What do you use to clean a mattress, is there special stuff for wet cleaning or is it a dry job.
Is there any special method.

alltec's pro-mite is a great product for this type of job, i do the odd matress meself, use cfr hand tools to get it dryer quicker... the last one i did was a straight forward freshen up, gave it a good vac, sprayed with m/s, rinsed it out, added a small amount of cfr synthetic cleaner with the rinse, plus odour neutralizer, customer was very pleased... regards charlie

I'm not an expert because I don't do very many, probably half a dozen a year as I don't advertise it.  I sell it on the basis of cleaning for health rather than visual appearances - sometimes those dodgy looking stains just aren't going to shift!

I've had variable successes with Browning Prescription.  Recently I've found M-Power very useful for the general cleaning side of things.

I pre-vac very quickly first of all with my cylinder vacuum to remove surface debris.  Then I vac it dry, very slowly with my Ninja using the hand tool (making sure to keep the inside of the hose wet to protect the motors).  The strong vacuum lift helps to draw out dust/debris/hairs etc much better than a normal vac, considering the depth you need to work to.

Since using M-Power, now I normally don't HWE them but just spray generously and either use a terry towel or minitex with bonnet pad, treating the brown patches with BP.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Probably try vac, pre - spray with Fabric restorer and a little agitation, extract with F & F Restorer, CBT the marks and then use a freshener or sanitiser.

There selling some at under a ton but the mainstream ones seem to be about £180+
£40 and £55.
Can't take that long, less than an hour for a double I would think.

mattresses are a bit like rugs.
you can buy some cheaper than you can clean them.
if i charge £40 to clean a rug and the lady says it only cost me that. should i clean it for less?
nope.
same with a mattress.
single mattresses can be as little as £30. but theres dear ones as well.

be prepared for knock backs but don't dismiss them.
