Certainly cheaper than writing to them but no guarantee that they will get it or read it whereas a phone call means you will speak to them (no guarantee that they will still do what they promise) or you leave a message on an ansaphone to which there is no promise that they will listen to or even admit receiving.

Emails with auto acknowledgement of receipt stands a better chance of working.

Overall seems like too much hard work given that some people will still ignore some arrangement they made the night before.

Might be worth phoning them when you have finished the job before to say you are on the way. then if they are out you can rearrange your diary more easily.

Go with flow. Either they are in when you call or they are not.

I nearly always ring them when leaving previous customers house.
But them I'm nearly always late because I'm nearly always late leaving the house first thing.

I call them 'opportunity to cancel/rearrange calls.'

I decided better to deal with the odd no show.

I can understand the other way of thinking though. It's a nice service and you know where you stand but i just like to make certain they have put it in their diary and that a charge will be made if they cancel within 48hrs.

Mike, Id love to charge for late cancellations but believe that the law always falls on the side of the customer. Do we have any rights regarding late cancellations or is it just a case of putting the frightners on them and hope they pay up?

I would also be wary of them badmouthing me because I had the gall to make a stand and p them off.

For me it's a pre emptive measure. Basically people think twice if they just can't be arsed.

Waste of time chasing it if it does happen, the emotional energy is too costly.
