thank you drivewasher mate ;)
plenty ov good info man......... ;)

deffo going with the ultra man, thought the same about having bits left in tins, wasting money.......
iv already washed a drive and the lady is waiting for me to sand & seal it,
been 2 weeks now ,still no good weather, just hope i can squeeze this last job inb4 christmas...LOL..

Quote
However you can use ultra on everything it may be worth the extra small cost to only have one product in stock as you can end up with part tubs of each

dont mind paying the extra drivewasher because i was ready to buy resiblock,i think it was 50(ish) pound for 5 ltrs :o

bit gutted at min, bought a surface cleaner from northstar, only used it couple times and its cracked round the top where the big nut on top joins lance ,plus one wheel has snapped,
it was only a baby one about 80 pound, but even so..... >:(

anyway big thank you again drivewasher mate, you da man ;) ;)

take care mate....

hiya fellas ;)
sorry havnt bin around for a while....been cut off :-[LOL

anyway done that drive guys the other day.......
how come when i was sweeping the execess sand away it was dragging it up out the gaps?????

also i applied a patio sealant, not the resin ,but i hope it will bond the sand and protect it,well i thought she didnt want the gloss finish, i bought the patio sealer  from contrct supplys twenty odd quid for 5ltrs (didnt have the money for better stuff) :-[and when i rollered it on that also dragged the sand back out the gaps.......OH MY GOD....
cleaned this drive weeks ago,and needed to finish the job and get paid 8)
turned out to be a knightmare guys, when i first got there i spent most the day removing moss with a screwdriver :(

so when iv finished it she said why isnt it wet look..... :o :o :o
can the resin be applied after this gear or will it be like painting gloss paint with emoulision? now its got a water protector on the drive will the resin lay propley???

need help on this 1 guy's if possible,
shes already been on 4n complaing about the mess we left,,,,a gust of wind blew the roller tray upside down on the road in front of her house.......do i use thinners or jetwash to clean it up???????

this is my first clean sand & seal job and its looking like my last....LOL

i love the job,and the money, just need a helping hand as iv got no experiance what so ever :-[

big thank you
and take care

hiya fellas ;)
if anyone still popping in on this post,
iv been to this job today after a phone call from the custie wasnt happy ::) ::)
here we go.... ::)

anyway while i was there the big mouthed gardner said i hadnt even sealed it .......i wanted to kick his daft a*se all over this drve man.... >:(
anyway told him to look at the shine(wich was hard to see 8)) also bits of sand were hard like cement,
i pointed out this was a matt and it wasnt wet look,he actuly knew less than me,........LOL...i told him about the damp absorbing the sand so the resin carnt soak in(thanks for that drivewasher mate ;))
thats why the sand is still soft in places.......probaly right.....

also the sand was dragged back out the gaps by the roller and seemed to lay in lines across the drive and looks s*it,most of it sweeps of with a stiff brush.......

plus theres a patch of sealer on tarmac wich i carnt get off...any ideas,
im in trouble...,,,,SH*T!!!!!!!

think id be better off osing a light spray??????
also can i lay gloss resin ontop of this stuff???????

thank you

take care

I think someone will be along to help you,

I never got into the sealing for these very reasons so cant advise really. Although i would be tempted to say it was anti slip to get round the sand on the surface  ;) . Depends if you could get away with it, but its not ideal!

The spill will require a thinner of some sort, hopefully someone will be along to help shortly. It is probably helpfull to post what the sealent is made up of.

xylene thinners, wear a mask, this should do it! the fumes are cancerous!

The only trouble with useing thinners (xylene) is you can't really get the resin completley off, you will just dilute it.
You may be able to soak the stain in thinners and pressure wash it off may take a couple of attempts. It will make a mess as the resin goes into what looks like balls of chewing gum, these balls stick to everything else, even then the stained area will be "cleaner" than the rest of the pathway

Hi CNC, I am afraid that you have learned the hard way that the drive cleaning game is not as easy as it may at first seem. At least, not if you are going to do a professional job.

One tip for you though: -

Return your Northstar FSC for a full refund. At least return it if it broke during normal use, or appears to have.

Not sure what other kit you have but if of the same standard as the FSC you are always going to struggle.

I wish you well for the future.

I do a fair bit of sealing and one thing I was taught when I first started was dont skimp on the materials. Keep away from the stuff you can buy in DIY shops. I use either PICS or Resiblock. Its not cheap but you really do get what you pay for!

You can always ask for the money for materials up front as part of the quote if you cant afford the outlay.

If the customer is not prepared to pay for the stuff in the first place you need to explain that if you want cheaper alternatives your not prepared to do the job, you might lose a couple of jobs but at least you dont get all the hassle you have above!

Always apply two coats, there is a reason for this with the sealant. The first coat is a base and the second coat chemically reacts with the first. Just brush the sand in so that it just reaches the camfours, this will stop the sand moving when you roller. Put plenty of sealant on especially on the first coat and roller it lightly and evenly!

Dont skimp you get what you pat for!!!
