It's the freezing (therefor expanding) of the water thats causing the hoses to split. you need to stop it freezing to do any good.
Put some sort of heater in the van overnight

it might be worth looking at a way or draining the L5 heater at night
i guess its just standard hoses ? ? ? ?

I find that a de-humidifier left in the vehicle overnight not only removes excess moisture but also keeps the vehicle above freezing.

This may be a stupid question but what is a l5 heater?
i was thinking of using a smal cheap fan heater on low or something maybe few hours on and off throught the night just to keep it above 0
