Hose Reels for aquatec trolley
« on: February 21, 2005, 10:59:11 pm »
I think somebody here said they've "upgraded" their aquatec trolley system by adding a 50m hose and reel to pump straight out the back of their vehicle - what hose, reel and connectors would be suitable as there are times when I don't really want to unload the whole trolley? Guidance please = thanks.
It's a game of three halves!

That was me Malc. ;D
I got a 50m hoselock reel (not the automatic kind) dumped the bit of cheap free (so called) hose and bought 50m of the non kink, bright yellow hose.
Bought a couple of step up/down connectors from Cleantech to enable me to connect the pole hose to the larger yellow hose.
All the other connectors are the standard hoselock stuff.
I chose the brass connector for the non return valve that you will put the step up/down connector into, for the smaller hose.
You have to put a different connector on the pump box too, cos its only a right angle join, so you need to swap it over for a step up/down jobby ;)
My pump box sits against the back of the boot, 25l container to the left of it, large leisure battery tucked tight to the right hand side.
Don't know if you have upgraded your battery, but you also need to buy one of the same battery connectors, I got mine from a local harware store, and a couple of crocodile clips of course ;D
Oh, I didn't throw the whole length of the cheap hose away, I cut off a couple metres to connect up the pump to the reel ;)
I think it would be quicker with regards to setup and so on if you get a separate length of the smaller hose so you can have a dedicated hose for when you use the trolley, and for when you work out of the back of your car, it means less time fiddling around swapping bits over.
Needless to say, apathy has set in on me, I keep telling myself to get that extra length of hose from Peter, I shout really loud at myself, but I don't hear :-X

Hope that helps?

Very helpful indeed Ian thanks.

One quick question - any reason why you did not get hose of the same bore and outer dimensions as the one supplied with the trolley? (Even if you wanted a more visible colour?)

Yep,
I enquired about that very thing in a conversation with Mike from Cleantech, when you get up to the 50m mark with the smaller hose you lose an awful lot of flowrate, with standard hose you can go up to a 100m and not suffer any loss in pressure at the brush head.
Mike has had direct experience of this.

Oh hell Bill, a couple of simple questions, but the answers, if given fully would be quite long and detailed :'(
I was going to say I will PM you one, but I think others who might read your query might like to read a full reply (and any others that may follow as a result!)

My missus has just put on Cocktail, and is moaning at me to "Get off the sodding computer >:()"
So, er, I am going to do as I am told :-\
But I'll sneak back on here in the morning and do a full reply ;D

Lol, oh good grief! ::)

I just re-read my reply......'thingytail'............can you work it out?

God these American engines :-\

Wife has put on the film C O C K T A I L.  You can't write the word 'cock' even when it is part of another word!! ( C O C K ) that is.

I wonder how it interprets 'molotov cocktail'? or a 'cock' bird when relating to chickens?

It doesn't bother me, I just find it really funny.

I did the same thing as Mike, I "upgraded" my trolley system with hose and worked out the back of my car for a while.

I have now "upgraded" again to work out of a trailer, to save the weight on my car and the stink from leaked water.....  :o

I basically have a lesuire battery and hozelock hosereel, onto which I have squeezed about 70M of hose. Even though it's normal hose, if you keep the water pump on when you unreel, and reel in the hose, it rarely kinks.

I can also fit 7 x 25L water containers in my trailer (it's only a small 4x3 trailer), which last me all day.

I find my trailer system a lot easier on most houses. Once you work out a different way of working (where to pull the hose too, how much you need ect), it becomes 2nd nature on return cleans.

I have one street wiht 10 houses in and moving the car isn't that much of a bind> I can usually reach 2 or 3 without moving. But the overall time saved with WFP makes it ok to move the car 20 feet (which takes 20 secs)

would a trolley be the best way to get into wfp to begin with.

Worked for me, although wasnt' long before I wanted to upgrade. Most people find they upgrade quickly...and a trolley is an easy starter system that can be upgraded easily, even to a van system.

believe me, once you start using WFP you wont look back. Take a look at this thread on another board for my thoughts when changing from Traditional to WFP about 11 months ago

http://www.another forum.co.uk/?board=wfed_poles;action=display;num=1086106661;start=0

...keep meaning to do a new thread, "From Traditional Trolley WFP to Trailer System"  ;D

we have been told that the first cple of cleans with wfp are not too good due to it washing out all the detergent that is in the rubbers, and it takes up until about the 3rd clean to get rid of all this....

That's true on most, but if you give a really good clean, which can take longer first time, you will reap benefits on the follow up cleans. Scrub all the frames first time around top, bottom, sides. Then come back and do the glass as normal.

Next cleans I just clean glass and side frams and sills - no probs.

how on earth do you square this with your customers...

Each new customer gets a sheet of A4 with a few pics that detail the benefits of WFp and how it works. I give them some speel to explain, not too long to bore them but enough. Also attached to the A4 sheet (which invariably they dont read) is a small slip of paper that explains:

"Dear New Customer.
As discussed I am using a Water Fed Pole System, with Pure Water to clean your windows. (Please see attached leaflet for more information on the benefits of this). If you are at home when I clean your windows you will notice the windows are wet when I finish, but as the water has been purified, it will quickly dry clean.

As your windows have not been cleaned this way before it can take a couple of cleans to get the windows 100%, as this method will “deep clean” your glass and the windows into all the corners to remove all dirt. Existing customer feedback has proven this method to provide an all round better clean than traditional cleaning.

I also provide a 24-hour guarantee for customer satisfaction.

Thank your for your business and I aim to provide an excellent, reliable service for you in the future.

Steve Richardson (Pure Clean Windows)"

I have only ever had 2 people call me back...most are over the moon with the clean.

Any more q's glad to help.  ;D

Cheers
Steve

Top banana Steve, saved me doing the reply I was going to do ;D
Covered just about everything, and the link takes you through to an absolutely top bit of posting and photo's over on another forum.
It is one of your own posts of course ;)
But with someone thinking of getting Peter's trolley system (or the cleantech one) it is the most comprehensive one on any of the forums. and a great deal of useful info for anyone thinking of getting into WFP via a trolley system.

Oh, one other thing; Even though most people will feel the need to upgrade to a bigger system, the trolley is an invaluable piece of kit to have alongside whatever you upgrade to in the future.
And stick with anti-kink hose! It's much harder wearing and will stand a lot more abuse than cheaper hose, it isn't just about being anti-kink ;)

Steve, is there any chance you could send me the literature you give to your new customers about WFP, I am about to change over in the next few days and would like to do something similar.

That's true. I do have a couple of days out of the month where I use it. Wouldn't have a hose long enough to go that far.......1000m hose anyone?

Cheers

steve & ian
fantastic answers thanks very much for all your help.when using the trolley what size of pure water system did you use to replenish your supply...not too sure which size to go for, advice please. also has anyone ever used pure water for the groundfloor windows, seems to me that it might be quicker than blading, leathering etc but not sure how practical it is.
oce again thanks very much

I use a trolley all the time...upstairs and down, front and back. Water supplied from 1000 litre, RO fed tank. Supplies 5 of us . I have 30 metre hose attached to pole and trolley...trolley (Omnitrolley) rarely comes out of small van. I can get round a 4 bed house with that, without moving the van off the drive/out the front/back...wherever...top up with 25 litre containers of pure water..(I carry 5-6)
Job done.

pps:   The reason they love it ?...they like the idea of their windows being 'purified'...rather than just 'cleaned'... :)
