How much does your desk cost you?
« on: March 17, 2005, 05:29:33 pm »
My wife works for a well known company who have occupied the historic building of a very well known vacuum manufacturer for a number of years.

Now there is only 18 persons that have occupied  this building for some considerable time as each department has been moved to different locations.

Now this is the silly bit.
The rent on this building is £2, 000000 (million) per year. That equates to over £111,000 per person to sit at their desk 5 days a week (and all are just middle level admin).

So I wonder at exactly what point those high level decision makers of industry become completely insane, so I can stop before I get there.  ;D

My desk cost £30 from ikea!  ;) Only joking!

It's crazy what some companies will pay for floor (or in this case desk) space.  I quoted a job last week where the company had moved to a very prestigious site.  Approximately half of the floor space isn't used, when speaking with the potential client she said that they chose a building that size because they were hoping to fill it in the future!  The building was no where near on the scale you are talking about but can take approximately 50 employees and they only have 20 max on site at the moment.

All this and then she says - we are on an very limited budget for the cleaning works!  ::)
