Banned from using ladder!
« on: February 28, 2005, 09:52:15 pm »
Just started a new site doing a builders clean, we know the site manager quite well, and do  know that he does things 'by the book'. He came up to me this afternoon and said' what are doing with that ladder ', ' going to clean the windows Stuart', I said, 'no your not!' sez he. It turns out that his company have all but banned ladder work on their sites! So we will have to clean the glass, and take off tapes/ labels from the inside from now on!  Sign of the times?! ::)

hi there,

its happening more and ore on sites,  one trick is to get on the windows at scaffold, or if they have a cherry picker on site then utilise it

yes, agree with Martin, scaffold or cherry picker for initial cleans.
As for leaning out of windows....thats a big no no, too, for one thing you really can't clean the outside of most windows from the inside. These building companies have either to get organised or pay the cost of more scaffolding or the hire of a cherry  picker AND an operator, as they need a licence too :'(

It's all fun isn't it???

The trick now is as you say, get in to do an external window cleaned when the scaffolding is still up, then when they are ready for the full clean you can just go in with your WFP and give them a thorough wash.

We've got a three storey hotel to do this month, full builders clean including windows and this is exactly what we have agreed with the site foreman.

hi there,

marc al, have sent you a pm

lionheart, i agree, but you'll still be amazed at what they can throw onto the windows even after they have been build cleaned
