Hi,

Last tax year was my first full tax year of being self employed, and i went to the tax office for help with my tax return, they really was very helpful, half of my accounts were in a book and the other half  was in the george programme,

I now need an accountant as i cant remember a thing i was told, ie. 25% of this for this year, and 50% for that etc etc....

so , this year its all on george. everything.

do i just print it off ..and hand it to the accountant?

I handed the print off to my accountant. She knows exactly how to jostle the figures about and had allowances that i would have missed - things like using a room for an office, small tool allowance, phone allowance etc etc. Strangely enough i didn't get an allowance for sarnies and snacks

Oh, also if you use one you are less likely to be investigated so i am lead to believe. George shows exactly what your expenses were for the year and will forecast your earnings too which might be handy for putting money aside for tax.

peoples names are stored in companies all over the world, im sure every company has a customer list.....

its what makes the world go round.

I thought you weren't allowed to store peoples names and addresses electronically without their consent?

it is understood that you have to keep the customer details, doesn't matter if it's a book, an old napkin, or george, so long as you keep it secure.
if you try to sell their details without their consent, then you are totally liable for prosecution.

I checked this out with the IPO and Data Protection Agency and they have siad that if you are only holding customer details for financial purposes then you are ok. If you ever pass these details on to a collection for example then you do need to register.

When I first started window cleaning several years ago, I was told by the local tax office that I had to keep a list of the names and addresses of all my customers with contact details, so that they could contact any of them at anytime to make sure that my anual tax return I was making was correct.
