I notice that HM are mounting the machines and tanks towards the rear of the vans now.

Could it be that they are aware of the weight restrictions now. I have a med wheel base tranny with a spitfire and all the tanks up front.

Now, I used to be a lorry driver so I am well aware of overloading on axles etc and it has allways bothered me how it would be if I was pulled to a weighbridge and weighed with the TM and full water tank up front.

I bet the vans would be over weight, so they now put the TM in the middle and spread the weight more evenly. Trouble is it takes all the storage space away as can be seen above.

I would certainly like to think that all the major TM suppliers in the UK are very well aware of limits on axles and would have calculated this into their engineering.

do you think the American makers of all the truckmounts available in this country considered our van axle weight when engineering their machines,

we have to make do with the best we can, I would think a lot of T/M owners are running around illegally in this country, illegals because being over overweight will invalidate thier insurance.

Dave Ingram was done for it ( I think)

A FWD van with a TM and submount tank could well be above the front axle weight limit, IMO RWD is the only drivetrain that's sensible for a TM user

The whole thing is mounted on a type of pallett and bolted to the floor, this makes it easier for the machine to come out of the van,by just using a forklift, and presto the whole thing comes out,and i can drive off, while it's being serviced.

Mike, I was not referring to "American makers" being responsible.
So let me make my statement clearer - let me add the words "who fit" after "TM suppliers" so it now reads

I would certainly like to think that all the major TM suppliers WHO FIT in the UK are very well aware of limits on axles and would have calculated this into their engineering.

You just cant have a lump of metal and place it just anywhere. If axle weights are exceeded then the law is broken.
It doesnt take too much to do a calculation and with computers the job is made easier.

If someone sent a "lightweight" van down to HM and asked for a Titan to be fitted (assuming it would physically fit) but weight wise it would exceed the axle and gross loadings, do you think HM would take on the job?
I doubt it.
Thats what I meant.

Dave nice and tidy van, hope it's always like that!!  Mine normally starts out like that on a Monday morning but by Friday it's a different story.

Don't think I've seen a 6 jet wand before, is that the Prochem Titanium one? it must drink water like its going out of fashion.

Also whats the narrow wand used for?

Hi Lionheart
Yes thats a Prochem Titanium, but modified with Greenglide, jet extenders and non drip valves also a s/s valve and
6x 015 jets. The narrow wand (very observant!) I use for edges before the RX20 and occasionaly for draft marking

Clinton,

Which guttervac set up?

Dave,

I've looked at the RX20 to run with the Prowler, do you find you use it much or is it only for the larger jobs, also how much time does it save?

Lionheart, I use the rx20 a lot but only on commercial jobs, I don't think it's any quicker than a wand, maybe slower  but it's a great deal easier on the operator and does a fantastic job that would often take several passes of the wand. Don't know enough about the prowler to give any advice there but I'm sure John Kelly would give his honest as ever opinion.
