I guess experience will come in to this Clinton, I take closer to 3 - 3 1/2 hours for a suite and about an hour for the carpet

10x15 carpet:

(10 mins) Knock on door, talk rubbish, fuss the dog, chat about the weather, decide on tea or coffee.
(10 mins) Unload machine, fill with water, chat a bit more at kitchen sink, top up sprayer if necessary
(5 mins) Finish coffee/tea, maybe sit down and have a smoke
(5 mins) Prepare the room, put big furniture on sliders
(40-60 mins) Clean the carpet & pack up
(5 mins) Chat with customer, close job off with advice etc, ask permission to deliver neighbour nudgers
(5 mins) deliver neighbour nudgers

Suites generally take me 3 - 4 hours, depending on condition, including the same chatting/tea drinking & neighbour nudgers.

At the last count, 55% of my work is repeats, 25% is referrals :)

LOL

When I started, what Jim describes is as if he had been spying on me. ;D

Some days I check my watch and due to chatting with custy etc it can be 20minutes before the wand gets moving.
It's amazing how much I can find out about people by just nodding and smiling and pitching in with cross selling and upselling stories and how I get most of my Clients through referrals nudge nudge  ;) ;)

So taking time to chat can be a good investment in time (with the right people)

knock on door with hoover and presprayer in hand17 seconds
most of furniture is out the way as i insist on this to keep the price down.
chock up big furniture on sliders, hoover, run out side fire up tracy back in prespray. 10 mins
refuse a cupof tea, 3 seconds
back out side, run pipes in conect and clean 15 mins.
bring in down drafter switch on 4 mins
get terry towels and spotters, treat stains and edge the skirting 10 mins.
chuck everything in the van and replace furniture 8 mins.
get monet and chat 40 seconds.

get home and realise ive left my sliders and a bucket. 40 mins
total 1 hr 28min.
ticket price £50
i can live with that.

I used to say that it depends on how dirty it is but with a TM it doesn't matter that much because 1 pass with the wand is like 3 with a porti, I think the question I would ask is how much do you charge? if £100 well 1hr30min, £195 and I'd give it 3 hours for that I would have it cleaned and dry ready to sit on.

Shaun

Do you not save any more time with your new TM?
