pre vac

Hi All
I had a job last week and part of the job was to do an old hallway carpet that was cut to size and to be refitted on the stairs as the hallway had just been tiled, got the old dart out and did the face then turned it over and did the back and I couldn't believe the dust and grit that fell out, turned it over again and again lost count of how many times I did both sides, weighed the bags when I got home and they weighed 7.5 kg. Makes me wonder how much dirt and grit I would have left behind if the carpet was fitted and I didn't have the option of flipping it over to do the back?

                       All the best

Many cleaners may jump on the band wagon saying that all carpets must be pre vacuumed or say that they use the most powerful system ever so do not need vacuuming but the question is "how effective is vacuuming when you can only each 1 side of the carpet?"

Years ago I used to work for a firm that cleaned carpets in factory and carpets were far easier to lift out of the workshop than into it.

It really was lighter when vacced, you could really feel the weight difference when we picked it up for the 50th time(may be a slight exageration, but not much!) no wonder they used to hang carpet squares on the line years ago and beat the hell out of them.........I bet they were getting more grit  and dust out then than we all do now by vaccing only one side! Makes you wonder if vaccing one side of a carpet is a poinless task?

i find lots of times the customer carpets are full of sand or grit as they spend lots of money on carpets then use a cheap vacuum or one thats 10 years old etc,i have been using a host for plie lifting and vacuuming walkways on jobs like yours. mick

Did a similar thing once on stairs as i kept getting major wick back, found the under lay completly perished to dust  :o big time pain in the arse that one was.
