Call divert warning (*21*)
« on: June 27, 2008, 05:53:12 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just printed out a copy of my full bill from their site 20 pages (not the useless summery bill BT send out every quarter). This print out shows every diverted call when you have the *21* active, date, time, diverted number, cost, etc.

I bet your always shocked when you see the amount for diverted calls on your quarterly bill. Remember the bill they send you just gives you a summary of this not a full break down of every received that was diverted.
You would also be shocked if you were to see the full brake down of every call on every day and find they are charging you for diverts that never happened. For example 7 diverted calls on one day when in reality you only took 2

How often is it you know for sure how many people have called your home/office land line and been diverted?
Even if you knew that BT had ripped you off, how can you prove it. Do you have the technology to prove otherwise?

IN MY OPINION, when you type *21* into your home phone you are giving BT a licence to print money unlawfully and you cannot prove otherwise and they know it.

Regards
Peter

Your missing the point craig. If yesterday you took 10 calls 5 of which had called your land line and had been divered to you mobile, BT charge you for 9 call diverts on that day when in fact you only took 5, how would or could you prove otherwise.

If you're worried about the cost of call divert then don't use it, see how much business you lose from not being at the end of the phone when the client wants you!

When you enter into a contract for call divert the costs and terms and there to be read, there are other options than using BT but they are not necessarily as simple and straightforward as *21* (we have ours on speeddial as it gets used that much), our monthly bill from BT is running at £136, 92% of which is for call divert.

Yes it's expensive and I do not have time to sit down and checkever item on the bill, but I can guarantee that it generates at least 10 times that amount of work every month.

I forgot to put call divert on on Tuesday and there was nobody at the house phone, I had 16 missed calls and only one answerphone message.  Today with call divert on I have taken 5 confirmed jobs

Targets to meet, share prices to keep and shareholders to keep happy!

BT, British Gas, Yorkshire Water etc etc etc they are all at it, what can you do about it?

As the saying goes "at least Dick Turpin wore a mask", if it makes you feel better I have been watching my bills go up and don't believe them!! I have 3 free phone lines from Premier voicemail and they itemise calls to these numbers (linked to me landline) then the diversion I pay for to my mobile and the same conclusion as you Pete!!

I use call divert to my mobile every day, when Im working, also when I am away from home at other times. I am with Virgin media. I pay a on a fixed price plan which gives me 400 minutes a month, and this includes calls to mobiles. I pay £30.. per month for this, or £90 per quarter. This is for all calls including those diverts and I never use the 400 minute allowance so get a carry over every month.

Like yourself, I felt that I was being ripped off. Have my divert on 24/7 as I found that sometimes when I log of I forget to log on again when I leave the office.
Kept a meticulous record over one billing period and what I thought was a high bill in fact worked out correct.
It's like Lionheart says, don't use it if you feel it is over the top.
Look at the alternativers:
1. Employ someone to answer your home/office phone!  Would work out a hell of alot more expensive.
2. Leave your phone on answer service & see how many potential enquiries hang up without leaving a message.  Would be interested to know how much your turnover would drop!
