Prowler Question New
« on: June 18, 2008, 11:19:58 am »
Hi all

Can anyone give me a clue as to why the water pressure is intimitant? I can be cleaning a rug and the water pressure is fine then the pressure goes off then on again after a few seconds? This keeps on happening through the entire clean. It is probably something simple.

Ive just got it and am still learning the basics!!

Cheers

John

Are you running off a tank or a hose?  maybe the water supply is on/off?

John has bought a second hand machine from the States which has been fully serviced by ourselves and is in reasonably good condition.

As I mentioned to you John, the intermittent pressure you are experiencing is due to the machine by-passing once it reaches a certain temperature.  I explained that opening the by-pass on the front of the machine, just slightly, would prevent this happening or, alternatively, use a by-pass handtool.

It takes a couple of weeks to make the transition from portable to t/m,maybe go out with someone for a day to see how to make the best of your new tool.

If using hand tool it will dump quite frequently as it reaches temp quicker as you have not got the flow as if using wand.

I have never used a Prowler so I bow to Johns knowledge on the subject. Now & then I have a similar problem when I connect my Boxxer 421 to a mains supply, sometimes it will do exactly the same thing, mainly due to the mains pressure not being powerful enough to keep up with the demands of the pump. If you are running off of a tank then you should'nt have this problem.

Could you run it from a water butt which is filled continually from the mains. That way water pressure will be constant.

I had this problem with my spitfire 4.0 turned out to be the pump seals were gone even though they looked in perfect condition. i replaced them and all was fine again seems abit odd for a tm to lose pressure when it dumps mine doesn't

I agree with John Kelly.  I have had this problem on various TMs,  Prochem Cubs, and HydraMaster Spitfire 3.2/4.0.    Once the water reaches a high temp the system dumps water to allow cold water in.  This cools the water to below the high temp that is pre-set on your machine.  John Kelly knows the Prowler inside out so i would take note of what he says.  Have you tried opening the by-pass on the front of the machine whilst you are using little water like when cleaning Rugs or Upholstery.

Richie.

It's frustrating when it goes wrong perhaps Skywalker showing frustration at the machine, get Steve or John to lend his wand and it will tell you if it is a by pass problem (you could always clean their lounge for free to check it out!)

One thing about JK is he's honest, can't same the same about Gunny though ;D

Its not gone wrong, its his first day and as you know it takes you a good couple of weeks to get the hang of using a truckmount after years with a porty. He just needs to use the bypass properly.

Yes your right John. I had used the bypass but had it turned far too much. I turned it ever so slightly (as you suggested) and it worked fine today, great help JK!

I posted on here cos I dont like to keep bothering you cos I never bought the machine off you  :-\

Your a star mate! Yes I did turn the bypass a touch but looking at the needle I turned it way too much. Just needed a very slight tap almost

To John Kelly:

John I may need to have the two hoses i purchased from you divided in to two to make life a little easier. Ill also need a longer waste hose as the one I used today flooded the car park out!! Would have been much better if it had been a bit longer so I could have got it on the grass so the next time your at the lock up can you get me some?

If you get this message tonight Ill pop around before my first job tomorrow so will be at unit for 9.15ish

See you tomorrow mate

John

Can't chop the hoses in two as the ends are swaged. Don't have any 25' lengths in stock. I'll be going to the lock up late tomorrow morning so will grab some waste hose for the afternoon. Just stick with it, hose management becomes easier once you get used to it.

Ok mate no problem, just a pain in the ass today when the one hose was about 5ft short so a smaller one would have been ideal...oh well Ill just have to learn.

Will pop around tomorrow afternoon for the waste hose...cheers Johnny
