Rug Cleaning for Dry Cleaners
« on: June 13, 2008, 07:46:56 am »
Hi,
I have been asked would I be intereseted in covering rug cleaning & carpet cleaning through a Dry Cleaners. They want to establish a commission basis and was wondering does anyone else have this as part of their business and if so a sensible margin to give as a commission. There would be an element of both on-site and off-site work.

At first I would propose - You set the charge you want and then let them set their commision (add on) to the customer.

If the result is that neither of you think the customer will pay what is being asked then discussion between you and the dry cleaner for a compromise. but you try to take the lead - they want you as much as you want them.

You need to get a decent pos board made offering free collection and delivery of all rugs to be cleaned, i would offer the dry cleaners 20% commission and add 10% of this on top of your normal charge, i have been doing this for 2 years with a local dry cleaners and have had on average 1.5 rugs per week.

I have a few dry cleaners that give me work, one i particular gets me lots of work. I give them no commision, just drop cards off every now an then and a couple of bottles of wine to the girls on the desk  ;)

Tried this once and while it will work the girls havent a clue about rugs so their taking rugs which are beyond cleaning, or have unremovable stains etc which realy needs prequalifing with the customer.

Best way is for them to refer you and you do all the work while giving them 10%.
