Prochem steempro s2000 powermax
« on: May 28, 2008, 04:30:16 pm »
Hey folks wondering if anyone can shed some light on my problem..One of my vac motors burnt out a couple of weeks ago smoke sparks nasty noise etc.Got replacement today and fitted it ,it`s a copy so not exactly the same as the one in it ,it`s a little bit taller but it fitted and it`s not too tight. On the first vac switch both motors work fine ,but when i turn on the second vac switch i don`t hear or feel any noticable difference in suction ! Have got another switch on order fingers crossed it will sort it .If it does not what is my next port of call ?
motor is wired in the same way as the one that came out all connections on both sides of connector block are tight the wire on the old motor had snapped but changed it anyway....

mark i think you have one switch for each vac so you should get some response everytime power one switch on. Maybe you still only have one vac working. Mark

Both vacs come on on the first switch ,dual 3 stage motors.I did think it was one switch for each though as you said .But i wired it in exactly as i took it out, there are only 2 spare holes for the wires.so i am assuming the second switch is a higher voltage ?

Weird just checked the wiring diagram and i have done it right, but looking at it the second vac motor should not be working on the first switch ? maybe its some sort of fail safe where they both work if one switch has gone

Ah not sure that they do both come on now ,think the suction from one is making the vanes on the top of the motor spin so it looks like it`s working. Will have to try swapping the wires around ,is it possible to connect them both up to the block in the same holes if my switch does not arrive in time for a job i have booked in the morning ,or is that a bit dodgy ?

Hi

Are you sure you have changed the right motor.

Its worth testing the one you have removed.

Also has it failed because the brushes are knackered, as with new brushes it could be a back up.

Going to have to check that now, didn`t reasise that the vanes span round when they were gone will have to have a look in the morning. Not sure if it`s the brushes?
it was smoking and spitting sparks out ,and had been screeching the last few jobs, making a racket

Classic sounds and effect of worn brushes, surprised it never caused a trip.

Thinking about it i have changed the right motor as the wire on the one i took out was broken. Will keep the old motor and fit some new brushes so i have a spare .Fingers crossed my switch will turn up today

Oh what a Muppet ! reason i could not get both vacs working was because i took the one out that was working instead of the broken one !  ::)  Ripped my hands to bits this morning getting the busted one out,so had to go to my job with plasters on my hands not good ...Oh well live and learn ...It`s sucking like a dutch ho again now though :-X

At least you got there in the end, have you changed the bushes in the other motor, i have always found once one has packed in the other one never seems to be far behind. Unless its me thats unlucky.

The other motor was new in december,so both of them should have at least 3 years left in them ! the 1 that packed in had been running for 4 years  :) ,think i might re-bush it just so i have a spare for short term use.i had a h/press pump go and a vac motor at the same time in dec ,was not happy

Still having problems ! Machine was running fine for a couple of jobs ,really good infact, however the other day one of the motors kept cutting out then coming back on again by itself,so on for 2 mins off for 3 then on again then off constantly.
Flipped it up checked all connections were tight in the block, checked wires to motors both ok,finnished off job...
Got home swapped one of the switches over before next job, stopped it cutting out so much but it still kept doing it ? ordered another new switch today hopefully it will cure it , any ideas what to look for if it does not solve the problem ?
Could there be a dry joint somewhere

Sounds like it could possibly be a break in the main power cable, certainly worth checking.
