Most customers prefer to call local numbers it seems, however if we are aiming to cover a larger area I can see no alternative to putting an 0800 on the website and also the van. Anyone have any experience of this?

Iv got, "A Local North East Company" on the Van, as I live out in the sticks and if they saw my area code just would not call me.
For the Real local stuff where I live, however for all flyer's etc I always have my local number on it as well as the 0800

I have both local and freephone, most people call the local one, i think this is because custys think the 0800 one is a call centre ?

have you considered a 0845 number, we cover a city we have a few different numbers all linked to the 1 landline they only cost us £2 a month each and you dont pay for the calls. So on Bradford ads we have Keighley 0845 *******, Shipley 0845 ******** and so on.

Good ideas. Regards 0845 I was under the opinion that it was on the way out for many since customers often connect it with the more expensive 08 numbers.

as 0845 is not Bradfords Code  would customers reconise this and wonder where they are calling?

personally I would stay away from 0845 numbers, as they charge you a fortune if calling from mobile, also most people or rather a lot of people have free calls on there land line now but still get charged for the 0845.

Got stopped by the Bizzies last week while out leafleting. He had a look and said oh I see by the phone number you are local. We are wary of 0800 operators.  Couldn't be bothered to inform him anyone can buy local no.s :

I see lots of vans with several local numbers on them for each area, could well be single operators doing this.

If you want local number try Vonage, you can have voip anywhere in the world and appear to be local.
