Just going to start pressure washing
« on: May 01, 2008, 05:51:30 pm »
Hi all
I run a carpet cleaning firm but am branching out in to the pressure washing area. I have all the equipment but no chemicals and experience  ::)

All i need to know is are there any obvious pitfalls before I start and where is the best place to purchase chemicals from?

Many thanks
John

I have all the equipment but no chemicals and experience   Which equates to all the gear and no idea !!!!! if you got the right gear thats a good start, do your own then mates and neighbours then come back with any questions you have !!!

heres one:
when pricing a job take into account drainage, as a job with bad drainage could be a bit of a nightmare, so price accordingly

I haven`t used a chemical yet,not had too, practice on friends and family, charge them for the sand and petrol with a little added on,don`t get stuck into any hard jobs untill your confident, cherry pick the jobs that look easy with good drainage, don`t sand till job is totally dry, make sure your gun tips are in properly or it will fly off and will break something, lower your pressure down greatly when cleaning doors and windows,i`ve asked every question and learned loads in my first month, job is really busy so i`ve had plenty of ups and downs,i make a point not to take on a job i know i can`t do to the standard i want to keep but most ofit is common sense, you just have to get stuck in and take your time.good luck mate.

Looking at dipping my toe in to the water on this as well, any one used the cheep pressure washers from ebay, if so whats the feedback on them, will I get a year out of it????
Resealing is it easy? Drainage, how do you get rid of it?
thanx

i think the best thing for a beginner to do is practice on friends or families drives to get some experience under their belt before they try getting real customers.

I bought a cheap petrol one off ebay last year just to do one job cleaning a car park ceiling, one of the best investments so far, raked in a ton of little one offs, get one, you wont loose out and you'll more than likely get your money back after one or two jobs, but also look for tips on here , which are invaluable....
