Charging more.
« on: May 20, 2008, 08:25:20 pm »
Hi all

We have recently started a new contract and they paid for a initial deep clean.

The problem is when we finished the deep clean, because of the size of the building and the travelling involved I now know that I have not charged enough for the regular cleaning its three visits per week charged per visit not per hr.  £65.00 per week I think it should have been £90.00 If you charged per hr I would say know more than two hrs per visit.  My partner or myself will be cleaning.

How would you go about approaching them with charging more I cant see that we can.

Yours views would be most appreciated .

Hi Fred

If the price was agreed in the contract at the start then it looks like your stuck with it untill the contract ends . When it comes round to renew your cotract then put the price up and explane to the customer that you gave them a discount on the first contract. How long is the first cotract for?

It's a case of live and learn, how much do you want to keep the contract?  £65 is hardly a massive contract that you cannot afford to lose, must be probably 4-6 hours work max.

You've c0cked up on your pricing, tell them so and tell them why you want more money off them.  If they are not willing to work with you give them a months notice, learn by your mistake and move on.

I would suspect that this is a verbal contract and there is no termination date, a months notice should be suffice.  The only thing that will suffer could be your reputation.

Once you've cleaned it a few times you'll find that you can do it faster. If your lucky and can get round in 1.5 hours rather than 2 per visit then your virtually on £15 per hour. Not so bad if you look at it that way  ;)

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

We do have a contract with them and the price is reviewed annually. We  have to give one months notice they have to give three so that’s not a problem. I’m  just not sure how to approach them regarding charging more they took months to decide anyway. So how would you put this across.

Thanks

Fred

If they've signed up for a years contract, then your going to have to honour it, then up the price at the end of the contract. We all make mistakes.

If you give them a months notice and pull out, because you made a mistake in your pricing then all your doing is risking damaging your reputation.

As you've said you or your partner will be doing the cleaning so it's no great hardship.

Not as bad as if you were employing staff.
