I put in two new motors last night Motor 2 appears to be fine but motor 1 running slow and bunning smell only ran for seconds.

I cant se anything obviously wrong as it appears to turn freely when out of machine.

I will be contacting supplier but wondered if anyone has had experience of this so that we can all learn.

Are both motors the same voltage, either 110/240. I changed a motor on one of my machines, ran for a few seconds, burning smell and died. Took back to supplier, he had acciedently given me a 110 motor for a 240 machine.

if we are talking vac motors then you may have overtightened the holding screws on the second unit causing it to compress and make the turbines rub against each other.

when you take it out of the machine it slightly decompresses so turns freely. I did this once when fitting new vacs in my old Cheyanne

I think this may had happened but I was not aggresive with my tightening.

The case does not seem as substantial as the one I took out.

Can I correct this? If this is what has happened.

It still happened when I put it back in machine.

if its a 3 stage vac it will have 3 turbines ( fans) sat inside each other. take the motor off and poke your finger in the inlet port and turn the fans (or blow into it), do they turn freely? or are they grating?.

because the turbines are just sat inside each other they are very easy to over tighten and compress into each other. but if you have overtightened them you can gently tap them out with a hammer & small screwdriver.

most machines have spacing tubes that sit on the screws to stop overtightening.

I had spacing tubes as far as i can tell motor run freely when off machine.

Wondering if I clamp motor to workmate and connect wires would motor fly.

Not prepared to try, i will do blow test and if thats ok complain to supplier.
Fortuantley old motor still works but sound unhealthy.

Perhaps I am getting paranoid
